THE Z000 REVIEW
This is the last of album review I’ll be doing for the foreseeable future. I have some fun typing up reviews and listening to different kinds of albums. I saved my favorite genre of music for last , which is alternative rock and that’s the genre I would classified Hozier’s self titled album.
I discover Hozier’s one-year-old lead single Take Me to Church on Red’s countdown and had the chorus of the song in his sig under the coveted song of the moment. I heard it and good God, I loved it. The more I listen to the song ,the more I liked and got addicted to it. I even liked more when I found out what the song is about and its lyrics content. Plus the video of the song is against Russia’s anti-LGBT policy. I’m so addicted to this song that I compare thee to a summer’s day. Or in this song case, treat the song like a lover and use religion metaphors to compare it. That ominous feeling the song has just brings life. That’s all I’m going to say about the song for now. That’s the first track of the album and it’s a great start.
The album has me appreciate the good mix of music found on the album, which is folk, blues, and alternative rock. Angel Of Small Death & The Codeine Scene is some kind of toe-stomping and finger snapping folk rock song that brings life when the chorus is hit and Hozier’s vocals are exciting. I really like this song. From Eden is more of somber and relaxing sound that also has a chorus that brings life into the music. Foreigner's God also has a lively chorus. we have a song like Like Real People Do that has lite- alternative rock vibe that its more about the folk guitar sound and Hozier’s voice that goes along with out of nowhere holy haunting vibe. Cherry Wine is similar to Like Real People as it is the kind of song that you will heard at a local coffee shop. Just that quiet acoustic feeling that it is all about the gently weeping guitar-playing, mood-inducing, and the heartfelt vocals of Hozier. Just like a true singer-songwriter would do. Jackie And Wilson and Sedated are more uplifting and catchy than the rest of the songs in the album, but also have the calm, cool and collective vibe. Someone New is more of a catchy alternative rock song that is mellow and Hozier does a good job to sing like its uplifting. To Be Alone brings the wild soulful vibe that Hozier posses. Work Song is like a warriors cry song that tries to lift up a troubled spirit. It Will Come Back is more of an uplifting blues song. The selling points of the album are the complex lyrics, the blending mix of music and Hozier’s incredible voice that brings music to life.
Overall, I really like this album with being uplifting, catchy in unexpected ways such as dark undertones and somber and lite rock sounds. It has its uplifting moments and its more moody moments. It’s a great showcase on how to create an everlasting blend of folk, blues, and alternative rock that goes along Hozier’s soulful-vibe voice and the adventurous, breezy atmosphere. There will be people that will say that it is boring., but I can really appreciate the music that this twenty-four-year old Irish singer-songwriter Hozier did in this album as my overall score is ……..90/100.
My Faves:
Take Me to Church
Angel Of Small Death & The Codeine Scene
Sedated
Like Real People Do
Work Song
Score 90/100
Whew. That’s how I much I can pour in these album reviews. I enjoy reviewing and listening to these album and this was a good time to do since all three albums are from new artists and their due dates were closer to each other. I’m done with reviewing until I decided to do this again. Glad we have this thread to post and share your thoughts on music and reading everyone else’s reviews.

| Newcomer Tinashe has definitely brought us one of the best debuts of 2014 with her newest album "Aquarius". Her work blends perfectly pop & R&B and the feel of it is really nice, overall. I'm glad that she kept up with the good music after so many people loved her mainstream debut single "2 On" that featured rapper SchoolBoy Q.
Personally, I thought that the album was good, but there are some things about her voice that I feel that don't fit with the whole sound of the album. However, here on this album we also have a very important gem: "Wildfire". The girl needs to release this amazing song as a single as soon as possible. Now, I hope she'll never ever release filler "Thug Cry" as a single. Also, I have to mention the interludes that flow so well with the album and they really belong on the album. Anyway, I feel that she will definitely be big and people will love her. |

FYI, I'll end it later tonight because I gave the notice later last night. So possibly around 9pm. You still have 4-6 hours.

No.
Promotional singles won't be reviewed unless they're released as official singles (for example, I wouldn't have started Dark Horse until it was released in December 2013).
I added this to the OP to clear things up.

Mariana and the Diamonds - Froot
Review By: Sugar Rush
One thing that I will always respect in an artist is the ability to write an entire song on their own. Marina shines vocally and lyrically with this infectious pop gem. What may be the best pop song released this year the production instantly pulls the listener in. Her seductive tone as she begins to sing the chorus, "Living la dolce vita / life couldn't get much sweeter / don't you give me a reason / that it's not the right season ...", assures the listener that the whole five minutes and thirty-one seconds of this song is enjoyable. An eccentric, yet welcoming, production that may be found in a video game sound track is what, surprisingly, really pulls this song together. Marina has never been one to disappoint, and if this single is a sign to what her upcoming album may sound like.. I am more than excited for 2015 to come.

Yeah I ended up being away from my comp all day so I'm a little sad I missed Hozier's deadline. (but I'm still gonna do it for my music blog!)
Definitely doing Froot + Jessie Ware before the deadline those are both a guarantee.

Froot shows a remarkable change for Marina. Her first album was just another one of the several 'credible' female pop singers to show up on the UK scene (a very good one, however), but Electra Heart was a lot more interesting to listen - a dark album full of contradictions, confusion and a great concept - but felt somewhat hollow. To be honest, I wanted the vocals (more singing and less animal impressions) and production of Electra Heart with the lyrics and sentiments of TFJ.
She has delivered. The disco-inflected number is probably her best lead single - a catchy, understated number that eskews her past annoyances to come up with something a lot lovelier. She undeniably has a lovely voice, and this time instead of yelping, shouting or oversinging she allows the production and lyrics to do her work for her.
It doesn't quite come up to Teen Idle or Buy The Stars but honestly I don't think she ever will. This is a brilliant song, and she has my attention for her upcoming album of the same name.
