More often than not these people are subject to a mix of extremist religious and peer pressure (either marital or patriarchal ). Besides, a culture is not only determined by those who accept it, but also by its historical and geographic origins : in the case of the burqa and the niqab, it's Islamic Fundamentalism.
I don't respect Islamic fundamentalism, and I have no intention of apologizing. And when I see the damage it's done and continues to do, I think I'm on the right side of things.
