Well, they had longer consecutive runs in an even smaller chart, so it's silly to discount their runs.

In any case, 21 will surpass Johnny Mathis' album, so the point is irrelevant in that case.

Yeah because in 1950s the albums market was barely a thing, and the albums that had huge runs mostly did so on the Stereo chart (there was two albums charts then, Stereo and Mono for albums released on each of those record player formats). Stereo was still a new format, and most people didn't own it, and few albums were released on it. It's like a new gaming console where only few games exist made for it so ofcourse those few games would be the best sellers constantly.

On top of the above reasons, sometimes the charts weren't even published weekly and Billboard themselves no longer consider that period in the Billboard 200 era when looking back on records: all time Billboard 200 chart only contains albums released 1963 and after, West Side Story Soundtrack didn't make the all time list despite spending 54 weeks #1 in the 1950s & Billboard published an article this year on albums with most weeks Top 10 and no albums prior to 1963 were included even if they did spend more weeks in Top 10 than the albums included
