Simon literally forces them into the studio every 6 months, makes them plop out an album, announces another stadium tour and repeats. They have a shelf life and are the definition of label manufacturing. Right from the beginning of their career on X Factor when they were 5 separate solo artists that Simon picked one by one to be in the group.

Manufactured = having others sing for you on an album, have a PR team monitor your every move. Ariana isn't manufactured.

Katy and Taylor write their songs and its been proven they have creative control (Greg Wells, for an instance, a few weeks ago said that Katy writes the melodies and the lyrics to her songs) If that is manufactured then I don't know what you all think of people like Beyonce, Rihanna, Britney, etc. whose songs are handed to them
Just because they fit the mold to be the perfect pop star it doesn't mean they're manufactured.
The songs, the image (which often deeply contrasts with whatever glimpses we get into her real private life), the carefully constructed attempt at a "legend" aura that has been happening since 2011. Everything about her is mega controlled and carefully produced.
