Radio1 has changed their format to cover a younger demographic. They fired all their old presenters and relaunched. Their ratings have dropped massively and they are not the powerhouse they once were. It's a joke.

It's not a new thing. If a song is not marketed towards the teen market, then it won't be played unless it's HUGE. They played Happy. They played Chandelier. A radio marketed to teens will want Eminem, Rihanna, Katy, Bruno music; not Madonna. Period. If you don't like it, use Original, Radio 2 or Capital FM. Reality check please.

Radio 1 is not what it once was - it tries too hard to be edgy and current. Who bans one of the biggest living legends in music today? It's their loss - Living for Love is a great radio track.

I find it odd that the BBC, a publicly financed station plays pop music in the first place. Why is that necessary? When there are commercial radio stations that are happy to support that and get advertisers for a pop music station

I thought the point of public radio was to put stuff on the air that commercial radio won't play for financial reasons, and which without public radio would not be heard. Public radio in the US for the most part doesn't play conventional pop music. They have news, classical, jazz, blues or world music for which without them wouldn't be on the radio. There a few public radio stations that play indie left of center pop or rock like BBC6, but none that play mainstream pop.

I just think it's silly for the taxpayers to finance a pop/Top 40 type of station. Makes no sense to me.
