Sexercize, All About You and Pills N Potions are all great so sad they didn't get the success they deserved.

PEDRO. The Elusive Best Of '14: The Elusive Singles (50-31)
Welcome To My Best Of 2014!
Let's move on to the second set! 20 More!
![](http://s19.postimg.org/6r04m498z/singles.png)
50. Fergie - L.A. Love (La La)
![](http://s19.postimg.org/flegjaw2b/LA_Love_cover.png) | Album: -
Genre: Urban Pop
Writer(s): Fergie Duhamel; Dijon McFarlane; Shomari Wilson; Royce Thomas; Theron Thomas
Stars: ****
Appearances: 1/1.
It wasn't what I exactly wanted from Fergie. I expected something as good as 'London Bridge' but she gave us a mediocre version of 'Fancy'. The song isn't but and I love how she names like "every city, every state, every country" we know. I think that was really smart. The chorus is a bit too long to my taste and makes the song bored but I love the verses and pre-chorus. Let's hope she has something better coming. |
49. Cheryl - Crazy Stupid Love (f/ Tinie Tempah)
![](http://s19.postimg.org/92lm6djv7/Cheryl_Cole_Crazy_Stupid_Love_Official_Single.png) | Album: -
Genre: Pop
Writer(s): Wayne Wilkins; Heidi Rojas; Katelyn Tarver; Kevin Anyaeji; Patrick Okogwu
Stars: ****
Appearances: 2/2.
'Crazy Stupid Love' isn't in 'Call My Name' level but it is so damn catchy and cute. Cheryl's voice is just so likable and easy to listen to. What I love about this song is that it is just so smooth, it feels nice listening to it, I feel relaxed, eventhough it is an uptempo song and has a beat that never dies in the background. I love how unique it is thanks to the chorus instrument (can't remember the name in english). The only part I could live without is the beginning: "La la la la (...)". |
48. Jennifer Lopez - I Luh Ya Papi (f/ French Montana)
![](http://s19.postimg.org/4hzfrg05v/I_Luh_Ya_Papi.png) | Album: A.K.A.
Genre: Hip Hop
Writer(s): Noel Fisher; Andre Proctor; Karim Kharbouch; Jennifer Lopez
Stars: ****
Appearances: 1/3.
J.Lo's first appearance. I really like how catchy this song is but there are parts of the song that just don't fit... Yeah I am talking about the pre-chorus. I like how she brought her Bronx vein back again in this song and how she kinda raps throughout the entire thing. My favorite part is probably the bridge. I can't listen this song without doing that chorus choreography with the head and the hand. Besides, I love how this song is in some ways really funny. |
47. Lily Allen - URL Badman
![](http://s19.postimg.org/n2spvmrwz/Lily_Allen_URL_Badman_2014_1000x1000_300x3001.png) | Album: Sheezus
Genre: Synthpop
Writer(s): Lily Allen; Greg Kurstin
Stars: ****
Appearances: 4/4.
I really wanted to rank this higher. I love how Lily's can adapt her voice with every music style. I love how this song mixes Lily's essence with dubstep. My favorite part is obviously the chorus because I feel like the song is taken into a new level, it feels more powerful and great. Lily Allen is so unique. Back when this was released, I was crazy about the song. |
46. Sanna Nielsen - Undo
![](http://s19.postimg.org/j5a1jyuhf/undo.png) | Album: Eurovision Song Contest Copenhagen 2014
Genre: Pop
Writer(s): Fredrik Kempe; David Kreuger; Hamed "K-One" Pirouzpanah
Stars: ****
Appearances: 1/1.
One more entry from Eurovision Song Contest. This was one of my favorites back then (it still is) but it got kinda old. Nonetheless I always fall for this powerful and deep Eurovision ballads. It just feels enormous and so powerful, it feels like an unique moment. Besides it is kinda special because me and my sister love to "duet" this song, it's funny! |
45. Conchita Wurst - Rise Like a Phoenix
![](http://s19.postimg.org/qiku56p5f/riselike.png) | Album: Eurovision Song Contest Copenhagen 2014
Genre: Pop
Writer(s): Charlie Mason; Joey Patulka; Ali Zuckowski; Julian Maas
Stars: ****
Appearances: 1/1.
Well... One more! This one you probably know thanks to Conchita's look. Eventhough I love Conchita and everything she stands for, I must say her triumph in this year's Eurovision Song Contest had much to do with her looks rather than her talent/song. 'Rise Like a Phoenix' is great, very dramatic, very classy, very divalicious. It makes you go into some other dimension and it just feels good feeling the words she sings... But! It just doesn't sound like a winning song (eventhough I am so happy she won). Anyway! Here she is! The Diva! |
44. Nicki Minaj - Only (f/ Drake, Lil' Wayne & Chris Brown)
![](http://s19.postimg.org/5gkuqujtf/only.png) | Album: The Pinkprint
Genre: Hip Hop
Writer(s): Onika Maraj; Aubrey Graham; Dwayne Carter; Chris Brown; Lukasz Gottwald; Jeremy Coleman; Henry Walter
Stars: ****
Appearances: 2/5.
When I first heard this song I was kinda curious with its instrumental but I wasn't fascinated. I love the instrumental and how dark and misterious it sounds but only after the release of The Pinkprint I started loving this song for everything it is. I love how it isn't a hard hip hop song and mixes four different artists. I also love the audacity of the lyrics full of bad words and "f*ck" all around the song. |
43. Beyoncé - Pretty Hurts
![](http://s19.postimg.org/vz3hzkij7/pretty.png) | Album: BEYONCÉ
Genre: Pop
Writer(s): Joshua Coleman; Sia Furler; Beyoncé Knowles
Stars: ****
Appearances: 1/4.
When 'BEYONCÉ' came out, 'Pretty Hurts' was one of the only songs I automatically enjoyed... When the video dropped officially and I saw it for the first time, I fell in love with it even harder and I love the intelligent lyrics mixing similar vocabulary, very well thought! Bet that was Sia! Anyway! Somehow, this song got a bit old and eventhough I still use it and love the song and its message, I just don't enjoy it as much as I did. Enough to be #43! |
42. Carl Espen - Silent Storm
![](http://s19.postimg.org/45d3ido7n/silent.png) | Album: Eurovision Song Contest Copenhagen 2014
Genre: Pop
Writer(s): Josefin Winther
Stars: ****
Appearances: 1/1.
The most stripped down song this year in Eurovision Song Contest. I love the beauty of this song, the emotion behind every word and its meaning. It just feels so lonely and like therapy... I don't know, it just makes you feel better because sometimes you feel missunderstood and this song grows with every part. Such a beautiful song. It got 8th place but deserved top 5. |
41. Katy Perry - Birthday
![](http://s19.postimg.org/t3v06g3wz/Katy_Perry_Birthday_Single_Cover.png) | Album: PRISM
Genre: Disco
Writer(s): Katy Perry; Lukasz Gottwald; Max Martin; Bonnie McKee; Henry Walter
Stars: ****
Appearances: 1/3.
And then you have this type of happy songs and this contrast! Believe me when I say putting together a best of ain't easy. It's really hard to compare different songs like this but 'Birthday' just makes me feel really good and happy. Puts me in a celebratory mood which is the purpose. I still think this shouldn't have been a single because she had so much better choices and somehow I feel like it ruined her era but well it was fun while it lasted! |
40. Sebalter - Hunter Of Stars
![](http://s19.postimg.org/tpabrp39v/hunterof.png) | Album: Eurovision Song Contest Copenhagen 2014
Genre: Folk Rock
Writer(s): Sebastiano Paů-Lessi
Stars: ****
Appearances: 1/1.
And here's the final Eurovision entry. King Sebalter! My favorite entry this year. I do have a thing for whistles in a song, I just melt and feel good! The same happened with 'Whistle' (Flo-Rida). I am not a big fan of his but this song slayed me thanks to that little element. But that's not everything. This song has also a violin playing in the instrumental and in such an interesting and captivating way! I couldn't resist it! My only critique would be Sebalter's english but other than that... Flawless! |
39. Iggy Azalea - Fancy (f/ Charli XCX)
![](http://s19.postimg.org/b3c5r7g0j/Iggy_Azalea_Fancy.png) | Album: The New Classic
Genre: Electro Hop
Writer(s): Amethyst Kelly; Charlotte Aitchison; George Astasio; Jason Pebworth; Jon Shave; Kurtis McKenzie
Stars: ****
Appearances: 1/4 || 1/2 for Charli XCX.
I'll admit it. When Iggy started being a thing, I completely despised her but there's a reason! I usually hate when someone gets too much attention and that tends to annoy me! It happened with Lady Gaga and even with Adele. But I had to let it go and when I was introduced to 'Fancy' I was like: "Hm... Not bad!" But when I heard her album I was completely owned and I had to "apologize" for thinking she'd be overrated when she actually deserves every success she is having. 'Fancy' is not her best but I understand why it was such a big hit. Besides, it is really catchy and her rap is very distinctive. |
38. Maroon 5 - Animals
![](http://s19.postimg.org/pmocpqfgz/Maroon_5_Animals_Single_Cover.png) | Album: V
Genre: Pop
Writer(s): Adam Levine; Shellback; Benjamin Levin
Stars: ****
Appearances: 1/2.
I am so glad Maroon 5 are delivering good singles... Their album 'V' is not that good though but their singles are just flawless. I am also glad I haven't been listening to the radio lately because I am sure I'd hate this song by now. Luckily, I barely heard it but I know it's a hit. I really love the chorus of this song and the 'She Wolf' reference with the: "Auuuuuuuuuuuu". Adam slays! This song is really catchy and I love how savage it sounds. |
37. Paris Hilton - Come Alive
![](http://s19.postimg.org/w47998pub/Paris_Hilton_Come_Alive.png) | Album: -
Genre: Electro Pop
Writer(s): Paris Hilton; Corte Ellis; Chris Richardson
Stars: ****
Appearances: 1/1.
Where dem Queen Paris haters at? Simmer down because 'Come Alive' is great. I find it funny when someone trashes Paris' music but then if any Pop girl releases a similar material they automatically love it. Hypocrisy is real! I really love 'Come Alive' eventhough I find it a big dated. Nonetheless, I love how smooth this song is. I was addicted to it during the summer and I don't know I just fell in love with it! |
36. Selena Gomez - The Heart Wants What It Wants
![](http://s19.postimg.org/47wz57rv7/Selena_Gomez_The_Heart_Wants_What_It_Wants_2014.png) | Album: FOR YOU
Genre: Pop
Writer(s): Antonina Armato; Tim James; Selena Gomez; David Jost
Stars: ****
Appearances: 1/1.
I have mixed feelings about this one. Eventhough I completely love the honesty this song portrays and all the emotion felt, I also love upbeat Selena! Her dance tracks slay but I think she got it right with 'The Heart Wants What It Wants'. The song is really stripped down and something new about her that the GP didn't know. I hope her next album has both styles because she can rock any of them. |
35. Danity Kane - Rhythm Of Love
![](http://s19.postimg.org/wfopm06ab/rhtyhm.png) | Album: DK3
Genre: Pop
Writer(s): Jonathan Yip; Jeremy Reeves; Ray Romulus & Ray McCullough; Candice Clotiel Nelson; Patrick Michael Smith
Stars: *****
Appearances: 1/2.
This is not epic Danity Kane but it works. I love the 'love' feeling it portrays and how catchy it is. It is just too romantic... I am not a very romantic guy but this works perfectly. I love the pre-chorus, that's the best part for sure. I also love how agressive Aubrey sounds in the verses. The chorus is a bit weak but it makes the song catchy and easy to listen to. |
34. Lady Gaga - G.U.Y.
![](http://s19.postimg.org/ryraq7lqr/Lady_Gaga_G_U_Y.png) | Album: ARTPOP
Genre: Electro Pop
Writer(s): Stefani Germanotta; Anton Zaslavski
Stars: *****
Appearances: 1/1.
I can't tell you how much I loved this song when it came out. It still is one of 'ARTPOP' highlights. I love how it goes back to the old Gaga but yeah... It is NOT single material, that's why it flopped. She had way better choices on the album and she shouldn't have wasted 'Do What U Want'. The bridge of this song is pure pop perfection, the vocals are on point and I don't know... This is just flawless. I love this Gaga. |
33. Charli XCX - Boom Clap
![](http://s19.postimg.org/ywvew5jv7/Charli_XCX_Boom_Clap_Alternate_Single_Cover.png) | Album: Sucker
Genre: Punk Pop
Writer(s): Charlotte Aitchison; Fredrik Berger; Patrik Berger; Stefan Gräslund
Stars: *****
Appearances: 2/2.
Here's Charli's last appearance. It's a shame soundtracks can't save movies. 'The Fault In Our Stars' is pretty horrible and sadly Charli didn't help the movie. It annoys me she found success throughout such a bad movie but I love this song still. I think it is really happy and catchy. I usually dislike this type of songs but it just makes me feel really happy! Great job! |
32. Fifth Harmony - BO$$
![](http://s19.postimg.org/x3si7tyoj/boss.png) | Album: Reflection
Genre: Pop
Writer(s): Eric Frederic; Joe Spargur; Daniel Kyriakides; Gamal "Lunchmoney" Lewis; Jacob Kasher Hindlin; Taylor Parks
Stars: *****
Appearances: 1/2.
I really disliked this song at first. I thought they were trying to be Little Mix or something like that and I hate lack of originality, especially when they have potential. With time, I started getting into this and that chorus is just like glue. I just hate that Normani sings like 80% of the song. Thankfully, they made up for the mistake in 'Sledgehammer'. |
31. Anastacia - Lifeline
![](http://s19.postimg.org/3jo4m9t5f/lifeline.png) | Album: Resurrection
Genre: Pop
Writer(s): Phil Bentley; Jamie Hartman; Shelly Peiken
Stars: *****
Appearances: 1/3.
Anastacia's singles this era were really good because they brought back the old and loved Anastacia. 'Lifeline' is such a powerful song. I get chills when I listen to it and the way she delivers vocally slays pretty much everyone. This song was only released in Italy as a duet with some italian singer but I had to include it. The lyrics are really good as well. You should check it out. |
