20. Kelis - Food

Kelis returns yet again with another album that sounds nothing like her other albums . This time it's a Soul/Hip-Hop blend with a ton of live Brass and really harsh vocal production. If you liked Jerk Ribs, there's more of the same, except with different lyrical and musical themes. There's an overlying "food" theme here but it doesn't really matter that much, just enjoy this unique take on Soul.

19. Ariel Pink - pom pom

This is the first Ariel Pink project I've heard in full, and I wish I had done so sooner. He basically took a bunch of Pop tropes from the last 70 or so years and subverts them, making them sound cartoonish, sarcastic, and even otherworldly at times. Lyrically, it's more or less to me a collection of insecure teenage boy thoughts. Probably parodies on them, but still. What I like most about these albums though, is that even with the satirical and parody-ish mood, the songs themselves still function as.... songs, because the melodies are so good!

Hmm what I like about Junglepussy is that there's this very casual vibe to the music so it kinda just sounds like you're listening to your best friend read the **** out of everyone.

18. FKA Twigs - LP1

I kinda wanna sympathize with Twigs when she claims that "Alternative R&B is ********." She doesn't want to be tied down to one genre because of her skin color. Sonically I hear huge influences from Björk and even Enya, but you cannot deny that Aaliyah and Sade have their hands alllll over this album. What amazes me about this album is how thin the texture can sound with so much going on. You definitely have to listen to this with headphones/loud as ****.

Gurl u should listen again. There's a lot more, there are only like 2-3 Hideaway remakes (which are the 2nd-4th best on the alber, but still).

17. Cakes Da Killa - Hunger Pangs

Cakes Da Killa released my favorite mixtape of 2014! It's full of hilarious rhymes over extremely hard hitting beats. Cakes Da Killa is very good at storytelling and being shady/reading others. So that's what this mixtape is full of. It's a definite improvement from his first mixtape, all the songs are much more memorable hook-wise.

16. Neneh Cherry - Blank Project

Neneh released her best album since her debut Raw Like Sushi this year! As someone who is in their 40s, she decided to go for a much more "adult" style and make Four Tet produced Soul songs. Her voice has aged a lot, but she still has all the same passion she used to have. Her lyrics haven't changed quality either. Overall it's an amazing comeback album from an artist I didn't expect to make music like this.

I was really dissapointed with pom pom. Perhaps because I was stunned by Black Ballerina and Picture Me Gone. I'll have to give it another try, it was also my first time listening to Ariel Pink. Getting into the rest of his discography is so daunting.

I have finally started loving LP1. I loved Two Weeks instantaneously, but it's taken forever for the album to grow on me. I'll definitely try a listen with headphones, I can see how it'll be amazing.

I can't get into Ariel Pink, he's just so unlikable. The others I should give a listen too although I was kinda disappointed with Kelis the first time I heard her album.
