Previous set:
082. Natalia Kills Problem
081. Ciara I'm Out (feat. Nicki Minaj)
080. A$AP Rocky Wild for the Night (feat. Shrillex)
079. James Blake Retrograde
078. inc. the place
077. Charli XCX You (Ha Ha Ha)
076. Kanye West Bound 2
075. Tamar Braxton Love & War
074.
Dawn Richard 86
I'm so ready for Danity Kane their return but if that fails and the group disbands again, Dawn can easily bounce back if she continues to make great songs like '86 and a great LP like "Goldenheart". '86 is such a beautiful track, so is Dawn's voice and it has an executed mid-80s sound.
073.
HAIM Dont Save Me
Late? I discovered HAIM 4th Quarter of 2012, but "Don't Save Me" didn't make my cut-off. But that's not bad, HAIM is just gonna have to fill in at least two more spots in the remaining countdown. A year later and it's still fresh, still being played and HAIM is still being praised by critics at the end of the year.
072.
Kat Dahlia Gangsta
Rough year for Female Rap. I couldn't find what I liked but "Gangsta" was a nice surprise. Although "Gangsta" has been out for quite some time I still haven't gotten into any of her other tracks but I'll be sure to this upcoming year. This right here really gave me '00s and Nelly Furtado vibes. This is really raw and gritty.
071.
Drake Worst Behavior
Drake sure knows how to make catchphrase worthy lyrics. This track is more "angry" and "dark" than a usual Drake song as he repetitively rants and then switches it up with the help of a Mase sample to deliver one of my favorite verses on the album. This is all done over a chopped and screwed and distorted instrumental.
070.
MΨ XXX 88 (feat. Diplo)
Diplo was enough to get me into this track, I usually like his production. This is a catchy but aggressive pop track, seems like MΨ is sitting at the table with the Lorde's and Lana's of pop music; just different from the other girls. I'll see if she'll be someone to look forward to in the coming year, but as of now I dig this track.
Bastille Pompeii
I got into "Pompeii" before it really generated some buzz and I knew that this track had breakthrough potential; it's such an anthem and almost tribal-sounding.
068.
Arctic Monkeys Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?
Single wise "Why'd You..." is what I prefer from AM. Forgive me "Do I Wanna Know?" and R U Mine? fans, those two are great as well. It may not reach to the same heights as its predecessors but it's such a catchy tune and nice blend of pop and funk.
067.
Lorde Team
Any Lorde fans knows that before we even got the album we were anticipating to see if her follow-up would be a banger. She delivered. Can we just give "Team" (or Lorde in general) some credit for influencing the GP to have a disinterest in the modern pop girls?
066.
AlunaGeorge Attracting Flies
This track is filled with such delight. Aluna's voice is so angelic and the beat is so quirky that you forget the message behind it. Who knew a bitter break-up song about calling out someone on their fairy tales and fables would be such a bop.
065.
Sleigh Bells Bitter Rivals
"Comeback Kid" peaked No. 17 on my last years chart so this is sort of a setback for them. But this is certainly a bop, not bad whatsoever. Still goes HARD and isn't much of a departure from their previous stuff.
MΨ she is the most exciting/promising new artist out there atm. can't wait for her album.
HAIM and Drake
and from 69 - 65 every song is epic! Bitter Rivals rocks so much, Attracting Flies makes me wanna break my legs dancing and Why'd You Call Me is one of the coolest songs of the year.
Drake AlunaGeorge!! I love AF, such an amazing song. Pompeii is a grower. I love Team, it was my fave non-single song by Lorde before the music video, I really love that song amazing set!
