Jake - Katy Perry - "By the Grace of God"
Quote:
"By the Grace of God" is the closing track on the standard edition of Prism, and it leaves the listener on a somber, yet empowering note. The track displays Katy at her most vulnerable after the divorce with Russel Brand. The song describes how Katy had to pick herself up of the ground after almost taking her life, and pulling herself together. The production can drain the chorus at times, but the verses are what really get to you and are what truly display Katy's emotions.
Poxy - Madonna - "Crazy For You"
Quote:
The first ballad of her career and second US chart topper, the swooning Crazy for You is easily one of the best songs of the 80s and one of the best singles Madge has ever put out, especially for a movie soundtrack. Stunningly written and beautifully sung, Madonna showcases her strong feelings of love with impeccable vocals. She presents herself in the song as having her walls down, vulnerable to the love that is driving her ever so "crazy." While there are many other emotional songs in Madge's catalog, Crazy for You remains a top notch choice due to the beauty in its honesty and the iconic position it has in the nostalgia of many.
MLD - Miley Cyrus - "Drive"
Quote:
For this round, I am sending in Drive, off of Bangerz. Miley's emotions are present all throughout the song. Rumored to be about her break-up with Liam, Miley sounds noticeably upset in the verse that starts with the line "You told me that you wanted this, I told you we was all yours". There are also lyrics that suggest turmoil around February as she sings "But I guess I got no Valentine, send me roses out and let it die". Later on in the bridge of the song, she sounds very sad and emotional starting with "I always knew I never knew I never wanted this" but then gets slightly angry starting at "I thought you would be here when I go". The entire song though speaks for itself but the areas that I mentioned are where Miley's emotions are at their highest peaks. Combined with the production of this song and it's haunting and mysterious aspects of it (while still sounding urban), it's one of Miley's most emotional songs.
♥jONE731♥ - Taylor Swift - "Mean"
Quote:
This song is pure emotion, the lyrics just made it clear.
“we forget what people say, we forget what people did, but we will never forget how they made us feel.”
Legend E - Kelly Clarkson - "Irvine"
Quote:
So, I chose this song because it feels to me that it is one of the most personal and melancholic song of her discography and especially My December. While, sonically, it sounds like a total mess on the first listen, you have to listen multiple times to really get into this song. And also to be kinda depressed, like Kelly was when she wrote it. She wrote it in the bathroom of her dressing room when she was in Irvine and was about to have a concert because she was really depressed back then.
Euphorae - Christina Aguilera - "I'm OK"
Quote:
I'm OK is a particularly sentimental body of music in Aguilera's discography. It embodies the most confusing emotion of all: resentment. "Bruises fade, Father, but the pain remains the same." Those bruises are definitely felt by the listener, the distressed tone almost makes this song unbearable. Aguilera's vocal delivery instantly grabs you by your throat and it's as if you knew what happened that day. That's one thing every vocalist should aspire to.. the ability to provoke empathy from your audience. The fact that you can feel empathy through a song is astounding. It's a raw masterpiece, a scream for help, an earnest (yet bitter) question/challenge to Christina's father; pure emotion.
Lucky#17 - Ke$ha - "Blind"

Nasiir15 - Nicki Minaj - "Save Me"
Quote:
This is Nicki's first fully singing song, and it delivers. The song is about how she has a good guy in her life, but she mistreats him. Now she's giving up on herself & she needs him to forgive her and be there for her. It's basically a song of regret, this is also one of the GPs/critics favorite songs from Pink Friday, and Nicki planned on releasing this as a single, but as you can see that didn't really work out. This is also one of my favorite songs from her.
K$Ellie - Ellie Goulding - "Explosions"
Quote:
Explosions is my favorite Ellie Goulding song and I'm really made that it didn't get a real music video. The lyrics are amazing and the vocals are beautiful, you can hear the emotion in her voice
Regina George - One Direction - "Moments"
Quote:
I decided to sent Moments because isn't only 1D favorite song from Up All Night but it has a great story, it could be a short movie! The sweet voice of Niall and the cracky voice of Louis are perfect and it just gives me chills. Now the only thing that I'm asking is you to listen this song.
rl231 - OneRepublic - "Prodigal"
Quote:
This song is incredibly emotional because it brings up the theme of a prodigal. For those who don't know, a prodigal is a person who spends money in a reckless, extravagant way. Now, there is a parable called The Prodigal Son where the son is given all of his inheritance from his father long before he actually dies since his son asked for it. The son leaves and wastes it all on unnecessary things and comes back to his father, defeated and broken. This theme is applied to this song through love where the man leaves and takes everything. She waits for him because she loves him, and he comes back in the end since he needs her. The emotion that is put into this song is intense as it is almost like something like this happened to OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder, either in a relationship or, furthermore, in a religious sense. Either way, it's still a really great song that shows the power of emotion.
Georges - Rihanna - "We Found Love"
Quote:
This song is a display of pure happiness in finding love in an unexpected place and enjoying your life to the max with the person you love. That love is so intense that it's addictive (hence the numerous drug references in the video) It's also a really fun song with top notch production, courtesy of Calvin Harris and ecstatic vocals brought to you by the one and only. It has that euphoric, otherwordly feel that takes you to another world.
fiercE - Maroon 5 - "Just a Feeling"
Quote:
I chose this song because this is one of Maroon 5's sad songs, but this one for me is their most emotional break-up song.
iHypeMusic - Mariah Carey - "Emotions"
Quote:
For the round, "emotion" -- I chose no other than, Mariah's 5th #1 single "Emotions". I mean...just watch the video! Her voice, the gospel she is SERVING called emotions. Her voice literally cleanses your soul, it's so pure and beautiful. As you also said, an emotional song DOESN'T HAVE TO BE SAD. This round would've been boring for me if I chose one of her 38292 ballads, let's be real. The vocal range in this song is enough Emotions.
CrazyCat - P!nk - "Family Portrait"
Quote:
I find "Family Portrait" and incredibly emotional & sad song. P!nk really put a lot of heart into this song, and expressed her feelings. It's just such a beautiful song, and has a story behind it. P!nk is talking about her life when she was a kid, and it just very sad, and very emotional.
TheSeenScene - Britney Spears - "Everytime"
Quote:
Perhaps the most emotional song in her entire discography, Britney expresses such a raw sadness and a deep sense of regret through the lyrics, which tell us a story of how she hurt a former lover and caused the end of her relationship.
The song deals with a girl being regretful that a relationship has ended, and all she wants is to get back together with the guy. She takes responsible and wants to make it up, as well as telling him that his new girl wont treat him like she would again..
Emyro - Lana Del Rey - "Summertime Sadness"
Quote:
This song expresses different emotions like love, hopelessness, sadness and fear.
The lyrics are very emotive through the whole song. Same as the video that was done with it.
Although Lana writes mostly about this kind of situations, this song represents the broken-hearted feelings a lot better and in a way that lots of people relate to.
Hugamari - Loreen - "My Heart Is Refusing Me"
Quote:
Loreen's debut album, "Heal", has many emotional songs, which made it really hard to choose. I chose "My Heart Is Refusing Me" because the title itself gives a good idea of how she feels. Her mind and her heart are conflicting, and she feels helpless. Most people will go through this feeling, and this song beautifully represents that.
Mr. Loco - Eminem - "Love the Way You Lie (feat. Rihanna)"
Quote:
This was kind of hard decision, because most of Eminem's songs are so emotional. But everytime I listen to the lyrics of this one I can feel the anger displayed in the song, it's just something really powerful. And it's not just about the anger, there are many emotions inside this songs, it's some sort of sick love, where (as the title says) they know they're lying and they love it. But it's this sickness that starts to consume their relationship as their emotions come to a peak becoming into a violent rage as Eminem talks about tying her couple to the bed and setting the house on fire.
#GENETIQUE - Marina and the Diamonds - "Lies"
Quote:
Lies is a song about two people on the edge of their love. But it is not your typical breakup song, it exudes multiple layers of emotions. The first verse shows bitterness that the affair is about to end. Meanwhile, the pre-chorus shows anger, saying her lover is too proud and a coward. In the chorus, Marina reveals vulnerability, full of regret that it's all about to end. Maybe they could just lie and pretend that it's all still dandy. After all, all Marina ever wanted was for their love to be perfect. During the final verse, the real reason of their falling apart is unveiled. Marina shows insecurity and thirst for love.
The song's message is further accentuated by its dubstep-y production adding a darker and deeper feel to the song and Marina's vocals which perfectly deliver the song's emotion to listeners.
Starships - Demi Lovato - "Skyscraper"
Quote:
This was her comeback song after her recovery from mental disorders, she recorded the song while suffering with her struggles resulting in amazing emotions. You can hear the raw vocals, you can actually hear her crying especially during the bridge 'till the end of the song.
