Most of us haven't said that what Miley did wasn't wrong. I do think what she did was distasteful. We're only reacting to the severe (and in my opinion, unjustified) level of criticism that she is receiving.

Even if Sinead had said something really insulting about Miley (which she didn't) there would still be no need to bring her mental problems into it. It's just unnecessary, and as a public figure she's just adding to the stigma that mental health problems are something to be ashamed of or mock people for, which is the reason why so many people struggling don't seek help when they need it.

At the time of those tweets, Amanda was suffering from untreated schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Don't act like she and Miley are equally morally culpable here.

You really think this was all for publicity? Her letter seemed awfully heartfelt and she would certainly know a lot about what she was talking about given her past experiences. You'd either have to be incredibly cynical or incredibly pressed to believe that that was all a calculated move to get her name out there again and her record sales up, especially when her charity and advocacy history shows she is a very caring and outspoken person.
