Love that album, and funny enough it was also a more Pop/Commercial direction for Kimberly, though not as extreme as PFRR

She's had a massive promo, and been seen alot, released multiple songs, a couple of vids.
The album buyers aren't here for her this time, atleast not initially, but a follow up to a big debut usually opens huge (ie Britney, bsb, eminem, nsync, norah, gaga etc)

Those are pop singers, with original pop followings. Nicki has appealed to a whole new field, and is obviously having trouble trying to appeal to both crowds. You can't count a 15 second feature on the super bowl as big promo. Oh yes, I bet all the people who didn't know her before were so excited to learn about her as she held pom-poms next to Madonna.
