I dunno though. I grew up listening to Janet and my family is about as white, middle-class as they come.

The Velvet Rope did quite well abroad (even in Europe! =-o). As I've said before, she was basically to the world what Beyoncé is now although Janet has a MUCH larger white fanbase than Bey does. *

. Per billboard, she was the ninth most successful artist in rock and roll history and the youngest on that list. I don't understand how some can label the new generation of girls "Legends" and then claim Janet isn't when she blazed the trail that your fave took.
