I like using "fresh" when describing w h o k i l l. It's so incredibly fresh and unique in a world where uniqueness and freshness doesn't really exist anymore. It's DEFINITELY a worthy #1.

1. The Weeknd "Wicked Games"

The Weeknd came out of nowhere in 2011 (well, technically The Weeknd comes from Toronto, but that's beside the point). Releasing House Of Balloons, the first of the R&B outfit's trilogy of mixtapes, gave Abel Tesfaye and company the recognition they deserved. Having Drake tweet some lyrics to this song sure helped them gain some fans too. Yet none of that would be important or matter at all if "Wicked Games" wasn't the best song of the year. The song is full of all the insecurities a 21 year old guy goes through in this day and age, with Tesfaye singing to his lover to "bring your love, baby, I could bring my shame / bring the drugs, baby, I could bring my pain". The emotional track hits its climax when Tesfaye pleads to his lover to "tell me you love / only for tonight, even though you don't love me". Loneliness is the loneliest feeling, and The Weeknd does a great job of expressing the desire we all have to feel wanted and loved. For showing such extreme emotions, along with some amazing vocals, a great melody, and an outstanding production, "Wicked Games" is without question the best song of 2011.
