Plus it looks like it has hit its AI max on radio and Abel is gaining 2.5-3M a day so that gap is closing rapidly.
If it gets it, it'll have to be non-consecutive at least as Abel will at minimum take his album release week off it imo.

YouTube streams are critical to Closer having a shot at the record.
Right now, it still enjoys a comfortable lead: over the last 7 days of YT data available, Closer has gotten 14,945,241 views to Starboy's 9,278,344. The MV should significantly slow Closer's decline, and it appears that the lyric video's views haven't been affected by the MV (at least that's what I've seen looking at Kworb's real-time YT chart this week).
It looks like the sales difference between the two won't end up mattering- it's gonna come down to airplay, on-demand streaming, and video streaming. The Chainsmokers, if they want to hold off Abel, need to do everything they can to keep their video streaming high, as VS declines slower than ODS (Work and Panda are perfect examples) and they also have a nice lead there. For the last week in November, it will come down to whether Starboy's album releass boost will cancel out Closer's lead on YT and sales- the latter lead coming because of the song's upcoming AMAs performance. The songs should be very close in airplay by then.
