Rise on the other hand is a pop song produced by the biggest hit maker of this decade. Not to mention the over the top promo its been getting, she's treating it like its a lead single! I'm almost sure most of the GP thinks this is her lead single.

but everyone is saying Katy should do so much better based on her name alone, same goes for Gaga, I guess Rise hitting #1 on iTunes makes Gaga truly a hasbeen

Yup! The over the top promotion. iTunes banners which is very common with single releases, oh but I'm sure you're talking about the video she released on the same day, a video which is just a montage of Athletes.
To think Ariana was dragged when Dangerous Woman debuted with 118,000. I tried telling you all that sales are dead, but no one listened. The main pop girls aren't immune, except the ones that keep their music off streaming.
And Rise not being a lead single isn't a good excuse. The GP doesn't know that, and Rise has had Today Show promo, sky writings, all the iTunes banners, a cinema spot in 20,000 theaters, etc.
The GP don't care about the song being Lead Single or not only pop fans care about that.
But they can't buy a song they don't know about. Most people hear new music through the radio and not iTunes banners or ATRL. It's gotten practically no airplay. Radio stations clearly care that the song isn't a lead single.

Is it a bad comparison? None of them had radio deals, but they all had banners and some radio play.
