Those songs were years ago. Urban songs were still being hits in 2009 and 2010.

The last time an urban/pop crossover hit (i.e. top 10 on both formats) got to #1 was What's My Name? in late 2010. It's almost 2 years later, and we've STILL not had a massive urban/pop crossover hit like that since.

Sorry, but I don't think it'll happen with this song. Pop radio always ignore hip hop songs now.

There's a reason Usher, Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown are doing dance songs. There is NO way an urban song can be a hit. It's impossible. Even Beyonce can't get pop radio to play an urban song anymore, nobody else stands a chance. Since early 2011 it's just all collapsed. Even when Black and Yellow got #1 on the Hot 100 it STILL couldn't get top 10 on pop radio.

Sorry to sound so pessimistic here, but after you've watched dozens of incredible urban songs flop and be completely ignored by pop radio, again, and again, and again, and again, you just lose all hope completely.

Hopefully this song might show some of the pop fans how horrible and snobbish top 40 radio can be. It's not just hip hop they act like this with, it's also country and rock. Look how they're ignoring that Phillip Phillips song atm, and it's been #1 iTunes for weeks.

Exactly. I wouldn't be shocked by Gaga getting the song into the top portions of iTunes, but Kendrick has no history on urban radio and Gaga has never had big crossover success like say, Gwen Stefani or Justin Timberlake. It is important for Kendrick to capture urban radio.

But we'd have to see. It might surprise me.

B.o.B recently flopped on pop radio with Both of Us. A song that features the girl who is on the cusp of getting her first number one single on her own.

Also, he himself was smashing pop radio two years ago with Nothin On You and Airplanes. The pop climate is far too closed off for that to happen now, as hip hop songs being pretty much blacklisted due to the increase of ratings that dance pop songs have brought toward Top 40 Audiences.
