People will understand if strangers who don't know them call them whatever they want but if their parents can call them by what they prefer, they will truly appreciate it. So totally untrue. I've seen so many articles about gender-queer people saying things like "I cannot believe this random person I met on the street used gender specific pronouns when addressing me! The microaggressions I face every day are so hard."
Also, anyone comparing the issue of gender identity to that of sexuality is clearly missing the point of the other side's argument. You aren't naturally born with an explicit part of your body that dictates what you're attracted to, but you are given genitals that do physically correspond to one of two sexes. They are completely separate issues, and I find it stupid that the acronym LGBT+ includes both gender and sexual identity since both groups experience such different problems.
