Beyonce is an "album artist" according to all her stans on her because of her large first week sales. Personally, I think an album artist is someone like Taylor Swift who finds it easy to cross 3x platinum. Beyonce does well physically, but she isn't anything to brag about.
She is 1.9x platinum and Katy is like 1.2-1.3x platinum
Remember now, Beyonce is the "album" artist and Katy is the "singles" artist.

The mess.
I have to say though I don't even use half of Prism anymore. Compared to how I used to use almost 80% of Teenage Dream. I'm not even gonna open my mouth for Bey cause I know everything I say is not valid in y'all's minds.

Beyonce had "impact" because of it's surprise release. Let's not act like everyone is still talking about it considering it's not even in BB200 Top 10 anymore despite all of it's "impact" and EVERYONE knowing and loving DiL especially the iconic "surfboardt!"
|
But Surfboardt alone is more impactful than anything from Prism. It has hits but was there anything interesting or culturally relevant about them? I agree that most of the album's impact is the surprise release and the visual album aspect, but why are you acting like that's nothing? That's huge. The media has constantly been comparing new surprise releases or releases with little warning to her. And they likely will continue to bring it up as it happens more. Will people talk about pulling a Katy in anyway for this album? What could they possibly have to say about it?
And all you said against BEYONCÉ can also be said about Prism, I'm not sure what those points are about.

No, my point was people remember individuals more than their works. People know Picasso, Mozart, Jesus, Martin Luther King Jr., George Washington more than they know "Nude, Green Leaves and Bust", "Requiem Mass in D Minor", Jesus' resurrection, "I Have A Dream" Speech, and the creation of the United States Constitution
My point is, your name carries your legacy, your work builds it up. Katy Perry fans overrate her songs, when they lack the timelessness. Not saying that all Beyonce songs are timeless, but she has way more classics than Katy Perry. Also Beyonce is a more well rounded artist. She has the critical acclaim, the cultural impact, and most importantly, the talent to build her legacy. So yall can have yall single success, but to me a successful era is someone who continues her legacy and that is something Beyonce is doing better all these other overrated pop girls out here.
The way she launched her music, breaking the internet, forcing people to be in her shadows and currently the best selling pop girl in this era >>>>>
Soon she will be the touring Queen of the new generation of Divas. Seethe

I'm not sure if you don't think setting an iTunes record, selling nearly a million worldwide in 3 days, etc isn't impressive, but let's set that aside because the terms you're referring to in your post ("album artist", "singles artist") are perceived ideas about an artist. They do hold some truth, but we can't say one is better than the other just because they have a certain reputation.
But if you want to get picky, let's. Prism you say is 1.2-1.3 x platinum. It has about 2 months more sales than BEYONCÉ. It had a much larger promotional schedule, had sales that spanning throughout the busiest sales quarter of the year, and is generally far less risky.

Katy Perry has always been a safe artist. Being safe is not having an impact.

+ i wonder how many artists are capable to reach new career peaks after 10 years of solo career and 18 years of her total career.
she just kept getting bigger and bigger, not just commercially, but as a whole artist.

Not sure if a word from a single that barely scraped the charts has more impact than the worldwide smashes, Roar and Dark Horse.
But this is a useless argument, coz Beyonce and Katy make different types of music. Not sure why women are always pitted against each other. Both are doing amazingly well, and instead of arguing, people should be celebrating their successes.

Prism
She saved the music industry with single + album sales
And she saved the planet by making everyone plant their prism

Katy's era is very textbook run-of-the-mill
Heavy typical promo - check
Generic singles - check
Radio deal - check
Obviously she wins as far as singles go but era as a whole, Beyonce's surprise release alone overshadowed every other female 4th quarter release of last year. Now factoring impact, album sales, tour, critical reception, Queen Bey easily takes the car .... And Katy agrees

PRISM is a little bigger so far, but it'll be so much bigger than Beyoncé at the end of the eras

exactly an singles are the work people are exposed to! when you say beyonce people think single ladies. timelessness lol are you from the future then her music isnt more timeless an katy has plenty of talent espicially if its her an her guitar she also writes all her music. the way she released is different an great but thats what will be known not the album. katy isnt a diva shes a down to earth sweetheart which is one of the reasons i love her an seethe? why im having a discussion with you katys only on her second world tour though an just look at all the aussie dates, not many people can sell that many

Lol it feels like katy will only be remembered for her singles this era compared to the acclaim that bey got on hers. Album and tour >>>>>> singles. And good luck to katy on her pursuit for having another top10 with the remaining unreleased songs from that album. But srsly what even is prism no one knows what prism is
