How is she a hypocrite? She's saying when she first got into the Pop industry, it was uncomfortable at first. She started out as a classically trained pianist, studied at NYU, was into theatre.....she played and wrote jazz music, then moved to more rock sounding stuff. All of that is live instrumentation. So when she got into Pop, where it is a lot more computerized and not really live instrumentation like jazz and rock, it was uncomfortable at first/different. But she grew to love it.

I really don't see the big deal here...

It comes down to how you interpret her statement. I took it as though she still felt that way about the pop industry, which would be hypocritical since electronic music + crazy costumes are her image in it

The truth is I started out as a musician, so when I got into the pop industry it was kinda uncomfortable for me. Everything is very regimented and electronic, and its all about how you look.

Past tense. And everything IS very regimented, elecronic and about looks hence why her debut was so well calculated, because she realized those things BACK THEN and she knew what she had to do to succeed.
