It took me a while to grow on this song, but I got to it. The first (and only) single off Code Red, Monica was determined to make this album something for the younger audience to enjoy, something she said New Life failed to do. Well what better way to start off an album than some hip hop trap music. And where did it hit on the charts........NOWHERE. Even montrealxo says that Atlanta was probably the only place this song smashed.
Mess... The song is good. It's not AMAZING or a highlight in her discog, but it deserved top 20 at least.
And it had potential too tbh. For a singer of Monica's genre and age to sneak into the urban top 20 is HUGE. She was one of the only 4 females on the chart that week But RCA didn't do promo or release the video on time, so... Code Red in general had a lot of potential, it's a shame
24. A Dozen Roses (You Remind Me)
The Makings of Me
Containing the sample of Curtis Mayfield's "The Makings of You" (which inspired the album title "The Makings of Me"), Monica created a nice sampled version with A Dozen Roses. After the lead failure of Everytime tha Beat Drop, Monica took the approach for the sound she wanted to showcase, which was mid-tempo Motown neo-soul flavor. Unfortunately, it didn't go anywhere after. Although, the video portrayed a more sexier side of Monica showing what she's got.
It got a few positive responses. Buyonce said he would play it at his wedding, while KAK called it lyrical trash....
this song just reminded me how big Everytime the Beat Drops was, this song kinda coasted after and Sideline Ho was a cute hit. I'm shocked by these chart positions. I just knew she was as big everywhere as she is here
any Monica video is sexier by default honestly. not Brandy shade. Monica is just fine as hell

23. Get It Off (ft. Dirtbag & Missy Elliott)
After the Storm
Served as a double sided single with Knock Knock, this JAM is the album opener of After the Storm. The spanish flavor Missy Elliott and the hard rap of Dirtbag makes you want to get energized with your neck, your back, and your thighs. In my opinion, this should have been the lead single, even though I love So Gone. KAK and I have a common liking to this JAM (for once)
Baby let me set it off, do you mind if I get it off
