Oh no I was hoping this was not gonna be the next single. Million Reasons is doing great, thought it would be a better choice. But whatever, chart success isn't everything. Have not been here for any of the singles so far this era.
For the people who are disappointed about Million Reasons, A-YO was the smarter choice for right now because Million Reasons is a definite hit and can be fallen back on in case A-YO underperforms. Would you want MR second single and then a potential flop third single and then the era ends? It was the right decision because it increases the potential for this album to have longevity.
Thank you for schooling these short-sighted people Joanne needs longevity
I think she knows that this song might not perform well. Since she's performing this song at the Super Bowl, I believe that she wants this song to be memorized by the GP since she knows it's a grower. I think she might even use payola so it can reach a greater audience so they know the lyrics to the song. What do you guys think?

"Okay but does Gaga realize there's more potential for A-YO to be a hit as the 3rd single than the 2nd? If she has MR momentum AND SuperBowl momentum, a song like A-YO is more likely to smash. If she has TWO flops in a row, then, will we even get a 3rd/4th single?"
It feels to me like Million Reasons can be a hit whenever, too.
A-YO is also screaming to be a hit, it's safer to release an uptempo first to have a Super Bowl ready anthem to bring once it becomes a hit, and an album selling ballad second.
1) People will already know A-YO when the Super Bowl comes around
2) People who didn't know Million Reasons before will be SLAIN as it becomes single #3 in February
Let's talk about 'Million Reasons' since some of y'all seem so hung up on it. to reiterate, the "evidence" provided, that it's outperforming this on iTunes, doesn't mean s**t. Initial iTunes performance ≠ successful single, as we've seen with other artists (Kesha's 'Blah Blah Blah' immediately comes to mind, as well as Gaga's own 'Do What You Want'). Furthermore, any and all personal bias in regards to whether or not it's a better song is anecdotal. A simple "I wish they'd gone with 'Million Reasons' instead", once, would have sufficed.
Anyway, the promo for this is actually pretty serious. The SNL performance + the commercials (saw it quite a few times during AHS). I'm pleasantly surprised that the label still has this much faith in her, assuming they're the ones funding those.
She shouldn't sing Million Reasons anymore and save it for 3rd single. It's really a potential classic (Paparazzi/TEOG-like, maybe bigger). A-YO can't shine competing with MR, but it could shine alone.
If she wants to sing a slow song for the new public, she should go with "Joanne", which isn't single-worthy imo and it's going to sell the album well since it's the title track. But stop burning MR!
I think Gaga thinks that Ayo should be known to people when she performs at the superbowl. But I think that's a wrong way to think. It's an uptempo number which can be liked on the spot if you have heard it first time too. She should release the actual hit potential single million reasons now for winter. And it WILL be a hit. Imagine performing it on AMAs and actually earning praise from all peers for her vocals. It will be magical. On the other hand if she performs ayo there, it will be just another peppy number. Rather she should make it 3rd single and perform Ayo at superbowl thereby boosting it's chances further up the hot 100. Use superbowl for your charts... And not for people enjoying the hits... We have her old hits for that. Let some song be new up there. I hope her team realizes this...
