Kicking off the top half of the countdown is Illy. His pronunciation is just so Australian and I love it. The pre-chorus is beautiful when they harmonise and the breakdown is fantastic.
Nobody could escape this song this year and I didn't mind at all. It is a cool, chill track that is fun to sing along to. It has an instantly recognisable chorus. I'm still salty that we never got a video though.
At first, this song annoyed me. The constant repetition of "Are we out of the woods yet?" grated on me and her vocals are rather talk-singing-like. However, it definitely grew on me and I guess I fell victim to the mere exposure effect. The bridge is fantastic and the production is great.
Get them crusty ass boys away and just hang with the girlies is the theme of this track and it shows through Meghan's sassy "nah to the ah, to the no, no no." She boldly asserts her right to "lick [her] lips and swing [her] hips" and say no. Learn some respect, you greasy toads and back off from Meghan.
This little pocket rocket has been a major player this year and it isn't hard to see why. "I Would Like" is a fantastic, fun bop. Zara unashamedly tells her lover what she wants and she does so over a smooth electro beat. I am so excited for her album and I hope she delivers.
This song is super cute and Ariana's breathy vocals in the verses are beautiful. The optimism in the lyrics is a refreshing change of pace and I appreciate the deep house influences on this track. The chorus is splendid and that breakdown is heaven.
Out Of The Woods kinda annoyed me too It grew on me this year but I still find it a tad bit overrated

#44: Fifth Harmony - "All In My Head (Flex)" ft. Fetty Wap
Whilst I'm not the biggest fan of Fetty Wap's verses, the girls of Fifth Harmony deliver great vocals over a charismatic island beat. The chorus is superbly cheeky and I love how the second part of the chorus is deeper than the first half. Plus, they all look amazing on that beach
I just discovered Broods this year and I'm so glad that I did. This brother-sister duo, with this track, have delivered an amazing electropop track with an explosively catchy chorus. The lyrics are great as well.
