I saw a lot of people complaining yesterday about Devil's Night, however I really enjoyed it and for the first time since Asylum it felt like the original show, 47 minutes full of character development, some twist, one of the most disturbing scenes so far and of course darkness and mystery.
What I love about AHS is that one second you like Donovan, for example, the next you want him out of the show. This is what happened to me, at first I disliked John but as the season progresses I start to like his character more and more.
I'm positive he is the 10C killer, this is why he got an invitation, moreover there was a specific line JPM delivered which confirmed John has still work to do, or smth like that.
What I liked about the episode is that many people were missing. And it made it even more intense. Of course everybody brings something new to the show but based on yesterday's episode most of the characters seem useless to me now and it feels they exist because 'the main ones' need people to interact with. John, Sally, Ms. Evers, Liz, Mr March and the Countess are the highlights of the season. (Iris is amazing but compared to the others she is not that disturbing at all and I expected her to be a bad bitch, so far nothing - maybe next week when she confronts the couple?) I can't wait for Liz's backstory, there is something disturbing I can feel it and I'm positive his love interest is John.
This episode was needed because it made us question a lot of things, it set new paths the show can lead to. I don't know why many of you think there was no plot development -
Alex is a vampire now, John is basically confirmed to be the killer.
Not to mention the amazing Hazel Evers backstory (it was heartbreaking because I've watched Changeling a few years ago and I'm familiar with the horror those parents had gone through).
What impressed me and creeped me out was these stories about these murders are all true, the kidnappings, the brutals murderers, the injections with acid or hot boiling water directly into the victims' brains, everything.
Holden killing the dog was disturbing as ****
.
Lily Rabe was amazing just like the rest of the guest stars. I hope we see them next week as well, no? A lot of people feel this episode is disconnected but seem to forget these are the Halloween specials and these are the most interesting episodes of each season because the creators introduce us to a whole new world of horror. It's the same every year. It's not like Edward Mordrake was the essence of Freak show but these two episodes were indeed the best ones of the season (along with Orphans), just like the Anne Franke episodes and then of course the Christmas one with the patient dressing like Santa Clause.
Maybe if the season was based entirely on Devil's Night it would be even more horrific but whatever, the season is really good as it it, top three definitely.
Just my five cents.
