It's Madonna. Her last 2 lead singles hit #1 on iTunes fairly instantly. The video premiered today, along with getting American Idol promo last night. She's been hyping the song for a few weeks making multiple appearances & causing tons of buzz. It has Nicki Minaj on it- a current huge pop star. And perhaps most importantly, the song is being played on almost every Pop station at the top of every hour.
That being said, the song is absolute trash so that's probably weighing it down....alot. The video is a mess, aswell. Maybe people realize just how absurd Madonna looks trying to act & sound 21 when she's 53.
You can have all the promotion in the world but if people don't like your song, it will only get so far.
And I said it before, people are heavily overestimating the Superbowl effect. I don't doubt that it'll get to #1
if the performance is good, but whether it stays there for more than a few days is highly unlikely.
"The Time" only sold 154k the week after the Superbowl. And the BEP are a HUGE digital act- way bigger than Madonna.
