Rumour has it, when she had 21 on the table by XL Records, R. Russell said it's a good record but maybe we should promote it for free like we did it before with Radiohead so she can get more fans.
Adele declined and went on to Columbia Rob Stringer, they stopped everything and designed with her a new marketing strategy. This was the reason the album wasn't put out in 2010.
XL is good, one of the best but certainly not for someone as big as Elvis or Michael Jackson.
And in 2011 XL was the biggest seller of all companies, so I think it's better for the industry it won't happen again.
