As you can see, it's been 19 months and 5 days since my first countdown in my own thread.
During DRL's run, tons of artists have battled it out for the top spot. This next flashback will take us back to the day Ashanti debuted on DRL as a soloist. Let's take a trip back to last year.

END FLASHBACK
As you can see, Ashanti began her DRL run at #5 with "Foolish". She went from a wannabe to a mega-star in just 1 year. Today, she battles Mya's "My Love Is Like Whoa" for #1. Ashanti's song "Baby" is retiring in less than 20 days, while "Rock Wit U" is trying to return to #1.
The next flashback will take us to how the live shows began their run. It was on that fateful day when Dave Matthews called in, and the live episodes were born. But before that, we're gonna get into another classic episode that took place in Mid-December 2001. I made some pretty interesting fan shout-outs in this one.
FLASHBACK TO 12/16/01

Ike bart, Victor, rco and crash are gonna be happy when they see dream takes the #1 spot again. Can dream beat Linkin Park's One step closer record of 34 days at #1?
END FLASHBACK
I really do miss JustChillin, I used his countdown thread to prepare for a home for the DRL Countdown thread. And then there's DCFan4Ever(now known as Matto), who made an avatar which would become my very first one in ATRL. It was a Dream avatar with each member of the group in each picture. Since then, I've had a lot of avatars including Dream/3LW, Mya, Michelle Branch, Ashanti, Avril Lavigne, Kylie Minogue, Willa Ford, Christina Milian, Mandy Moore, Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Lopez, Linkin Park, Adema, No Secrets and Lillix.
As for the live episodes, they were off the hook when the first one aired at about the end of 2001. Let's move on to two days after fan shout-out day.

Caller:Correct.
Me:Well, guess what? 1 of your videos will make my top 50 of 2001 this year. It will not be the space between right?

Caller:THANK YOU!

BYE!
END FLASHBACK
Don't ask. Britney was only pretending to call me sweetie. Ok, so it was only a phone call, but still, it's sort of live. Jared, you had Dave Matthews Band on your countdown when that episode of DRL first aired, and I remember.
And that ends day 1 of memory lane. I'd do more, but there's not enough room to post in this post.
I'll ask for comments.

CLOSE CALLS:
30. Pink "Feel Good Time" (1, 25)
29. No Secrets "No Secrets" (36, 2@1)
28. Lasgo "Alone" -2
27. Melanie Chisholm "Here It Comes Again" (41, 1@1)+1
26. Finch "What It Is To Burn" (57, 3@1)+1
Falloff:NONE
Me:We are at the end of May, and before we exit this tight month, we will see "I'm Glad" and "Fighter" on this countdown one last time. They will make the summer and year-end countdown. We also have the DRL premiere of Amerie, Loon and Foxy Brown with "Too Much For Me", the world premiere of Emma Bunton's new song "Free Me", and the world premiere of Dream's brand-spanking new joint "Krazy". Before we get to any of that, we have to start the countdown. To do that, we have Cirrus kicking us off.
25. Cirrus "Boomerang" (10, 7)-4
This song has been on this countdown for 10 days and reached a peak of #7. Thanks to Lillix and Sugar Ray falling off, Cirrus has been able to make a comeback. Will Boomerang rebound?
24. Lucy Woodward "Dumb Girls" (159, 4@1)- *Retires Tomorrow*
Tomorrow, she will be outta here. This was the song that jump-started her career. Today, it embraces day 159 on the countdown. Can it retire at #1?
23. Kelly Clarkson "Miss Independent" (49, 1@1)+2
Clearly her best video on DRL. This video debuted at #10, and has gone up to #1 once. Unfortunately, she hasn't been able to make a run for the top lately. Will she go up?
22. Beyonce Featuring Jay-Z "Crazy In Love" (9, 4)-5
This is the third straight day that Beyonce has fallen 5 spots. Today, she falls from #17-#22. C'mon guys, if you want it at #1, you need to vote for it.
21. Jewel "Intuition" (39, 2)-7 (Fall Of The Day)
She takes a 7 spot drop to #21 today as she takes the fall of the day with Intuition. Like Beyonce, if you want Jewel at #1, you need to vote for her.
Me:And now, the DRL premiere of Amerie, Loon and Foxy Brown with "Too Much For Me".
*plays video*
Me:The top twenty is now.
20. Shania Twain "Forever And For Always" (32, 2)-1
It appears that she has found a rhythm. Shania has yet another 30 day video on the countdown. Today, she slips a spot to #20, but won't give up yet.
19. Thalia Featuring Fat Joe "I Want You" (29, 2)-1
Thalia's first video to make DRL is doing pretty good for a rookie. She slides only 1 to #19 today.
18. Evanescence "Going Under" (12, 1@1)-2
This song continues to stumble. Evanescence drops 2 more spots to #18 with Going Under today. Can they make a comeback?
17. Linkin Park "Somewhere I Belong" (99, 2@1)-7 *Retires Tomorrow*
Tomorrow is your last chance to get this to #1. Linkin Park take a 7 spot drop to #17 today with Somewhere I Belong.
Me:And now, the retirement of...Christina Aguilera's "Fighter". One more time, here's "Fighter" at #16.
16. Christina Aguilera "Fighter (Video)" (60, 2@1)+6 RETIRED
Debut Date:Early April, 2003 @ 2
Retired Date:May 31st, 2003 @ 16
Days On:60
Days At #1:2
Lowest:#23
Consecutive?:Yes.
Claim To Fame:7th solo video from her to retire.
News:We won't have any new stuff from Christina for a little while, so please be patient Christina fans.
Me:We have another DRL premiere for you now. It's "Still" by Jennifer Lopez, to replace "I'm Glad".
*plays song*
Me:Speaking of J. Lo, she's retiring at #15 today. Here's one more look at "I'm Glad".
15. Jennifer Lopez "I'm Glad (Video)" (60, 3@1)+8 RETIRED
Debut Date:Early April, 2003 @ 1
Retired Date:May 31st, 2003 @ 15
Days On:60
Days At #1:3
Lowest:#23 (yesterday)
Consecutive?:YES.
Claim To Fame:Umpteenth video from her to retire.
News:"Still" will be J. Lo's next song to make the countdown. Expect a debut from that one tomorrow.
14. Hilary Duff "Why Not" (72, 5@1)+1
This video spent its first 4 days at #1. Since then, she has only spent 1 day on top, but that ended Lillix's 22 day streak at #1 with It's About Time. Hilary is poised to return to the top.
13. Play "I Must Not Chase The Boys (Video)" (19, 4@1)-5 (LOW)
Ouch! Play is out of the top ten for the first time with this song. They fall victim to Lillix, Ludacris, Stacie and The Used.
12. Lillix "Invisible" (2, 12)+8 (Jump Of The Day)
Lillix takes the jump of the day rising 8 spots to #12 with Invisible. They might have a powerhouse in this song here. We'll see what happens in the future.
11. Ludacris "Act A Fool" (9, 11)+1
This song by Ludacris lost airplay today. He might not make it to the top ten if this keeps up. Can he regain a bullet?
Me:Now, the world premiere of "Krazy" by Dream.
*plays song*
Me:Ok, it's time for the top ten. But before we do that, let's give you a sneak peek of Lil Kim's new one. This is called Magic Stick, and here it is.
*plays 30 second snippet*
Me:We are premiering it on tomorrow's show, so stay tuned. Let's bust the top ten in a moment.
*Break*
Me:The Used kick off the top ten as we welcome you back to DRL.
10. The Used "Blue And Yellow" (5, 10)+3
This is my favorite song from them right now. We premiered this a while back, and now it has gotten heavy rotation.
9. Lillix "It's About Time" (48, 23@1)+
They are holding on with this song. It's About Time enters day 48 on the countdown.
8. Stacie Orrico "Stuck" (113, 3@1)+3
After 3 days at #11, Stacie makes a 3 spot jump to #8 with Stuck. Things may be looking good for her.
7. Good Charlotte "Girls And Boys" (11, 4)+
6. The Troys "What Do You Do" (23, 3)+
Both Good Charlotte and The Troys are holding on to their positions today with brute force. They are eyeing the top 5.
Me:Now, the world premiere of Emma Bunton's "Free Me".
*plays song*
Me:The top 5 is starting now.
5. Michelle Branch "Are You Happy Now" (5, 3)-2
Uh-oh. Michelle Branch is starting to lose some ground. She couldn't keep up with Mya as she falls 2 spots to #5, but don't you dare count her out just yet. This is only the beginning of her run.
4. Ashanti "Baby" (383, 58@1)+1 *Retires In 17 Days*
Ashanti is determined to get "Baby" back to #1. She rises 1 spot to #4 after 383 days on the countdown.
3. Linkin Park "Faint" (3, 3)+1
Linkin Park and Dream are linked in a way. They both made their DRL debuts in late 2000. Dream dominated the pop market, while Linkin Park conquered the rock market. As for LP's latest, "Faint" continues to have a slow climb to the top by climbing 1 spot to #3 today.
Me:Ok. The battle for #1 is Mya v.s. Ashanti again. Mya won the last 2 days, and today is no exception. Ashanti is stuck at #2 again.
2. Ashanti "Rock Wit U" (40, 10@1)+
Ashanti's run might have been stopped by Mya entirely, but the Murder Inc. star isn't giving up so easily. Today, she remains at #2, still with a bullet.
1. Mya "My Love Is Like Whoa" (5, 3@1)+
Is Mya unstoppable? She remains at #1 for a 3rd day in a row with My Love Is Like Whoa.
Me:That ends DRL for today. Goodbye!
*wait*
Me:Before we go, here's the top ten songs in my playlist right now, ranging from 10-1. First, the close calls.

It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye. Debuts from Amerie, Loon and Foxy Brown, Avril Lavigne, Emma Bunton, Dream and Jennifer Lopez. Premieres from New Found Glory and Lil Kim Featuring 50 Cent are sure to rock your world. Top that off with a Sean Paul sneak peek, plus a first listen to a new Britney Spears track, and you have the perfect recipe to kick off Spanking New Music Month.
But sadly, as new songs enter, old ones have to go bye-bye. Here's a look at songs that are removed from the request list.
REMOVED:
Saliva "Rest"
Lil Kim "The Jump Off"
Fabolous "Can't Let You Go"
Robbie Williams "Feel"
Madonna "American Life"
