The single wasn't the problem though, it was the album that was clashing. I just think it's pointless overall.

No but I think the idea is to make YG think they'll delay the album by delaying the single. I can't imagine they'd have a proper SNSD comeback without an MV, and if that gets delayed so will the single, ergo the album too. SM seem to have a particular way of doing things, so for them to threaten to change that, YG having studied SMology will be caught out.
