I said that? I mean I do use it for the cookouts and fireworks, but I don't necessarily feel like July 4, 1776 is a day that represents my freedom as a black person. To me, the day the Emancipation Proclamation was signed, January 1, 1863, is way more personable and, more importantly, June 19th, 1965,the date in which it was enforced. It kind of saddens me that those dates aren't celebrated nearly as much as "Independence" Day by the black community.
