Cate got lucky with LOTR because that was the only blockbuster franchise that was also a hugely acclaimed Oscar player in the last couple of decades, but then she also did the horrible Indiana Jones 4 film, a voice in How to Train Your Dragon 2, Cinderella, and the flop Robin Hood remake with Russell Crowe.
Are you trying to imply that How To Train Your Dragon 2 was a terrible movie? It was a box office smash and it was critically acclaimed. Sit down
Volpi Cup is more prestigious than a z-list-region's critics' award really. It doesn't have bearing on the Oscars, no, but it is more prestigious.
It's also a much more diverse group of winners:
Sandra Ceccarelli (2001) Julianne Moore (2002) Katja Riemann (2003) Imelda Staunton (2004) Giovanna Mezzogiorno (2005) Helen Mirren (2006) Cate Blanchett (2007) Dominique Blanc (2008) Kseniya Rappoport (2009) Ariane Labed (2010) Deanie Ip (2011) Hadas Yaron (2012) Elena Cotta (2013) Alba Rohrwacher (2014) Valeria Golino (2015) Emma Stone (2016)
Only 2 Americans this century.

Only Helen won the Oscar. Poor Emma. The odds are never in her favor.
That Paterson movie that Adam Driver has snatched some critic awards for has Golshifteh Farahani. She's an Iranian actress, did About Elly and The Patience Stone (two of my fave foreign films). I NEED to see this now.
I was actually thinking that LLL is the best chance for Emma to get an Oscar. I don't see her becoming a frontrunner in the future with another kind of movie tbh. So she should probably get it now, even if she technically wasn't the most acclaimed performer this year.
friday girl u should just accept that emma is incredibly disadvantaged rn
i mean it's ironic how youre all about stats and receipts and they (natalie > emma so far) are right at your face, theres no denying and twisting
aaaand i remember last year when u stanned saoirse and used her "nobody knows their names" critics awards to try and put up a fight against brie. so lets not
Yeah, I remember when King's Speech had to win a bunch of Best Picture awards from lower tier critics awards.
Oh wait, Social Network took practically all of them and still didn't win? How weird. Is it kinda like critics aren't the same thing as people who work in the industry?

Woo!!! Isabelle slay bish!! and Nat #2 the two with the most wins so far I'm so mad Elle is not playing at the indie/limited release theater here in Dallas anymore it was like 2-3 weeks ago but never went and now is gone ugh. I really wanna watch it.
Slay at Trevante making it @#1 he was great and deserves more love.

Kinda like Kristen Stewart with her César Award, only less prestigious then?

You do realize that in that case TKS was the Oscar-bait compared to TSN, and in this case, Natalie has the Oscar-bait role while Emma does not. Even by this logic you used Natalie makes the most sense as the winner.
