Katy Perry ‘Teenage Dream: Complete Confection’ Review
Katy Perry has clearly been no stranger to the world of pop over the last 4 years, and she certainly doesn’t plan on going away anytime soon. ‘Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection’ is the upcoming re-release of her 2010 sophomore album ‘Teenage Dream’ that sold more than 5.5 million copies worldwide, with over 30 million single sales aside from the album. It’s pretty safe to say that this campaign could not have gone any better for Perry, she’s even bagged herself a US Singles Chart Record (along-side former holder Michael Jackson) for having 5 US Hot 100 No.1′s from the same album, which is pretty damn impressive.
Aside from that, she’s back and is hungry for more! Katy is set to release ‘The Complete Confection’ on March 26th which contains all 12 original tracks from the former release and a whopping seven new songs, the new single ‘Part of Me’, future club smash ‘Dressin’ Up’, melodic mid-tempo ‘Wide Awake’ and four remixes including ‘E.T. feat. Kanye’, ‘Last Friday Night feat. Missy Elliot’, an acoustic rendition of ‘The One That Got Away’ and a brand new ‘Tommie Sunshine Megamix’ which is basically a mash up of all six singles and it’s not-surprisingly brilliant!
Here’s a little ‘track-by-track’ review of the three new songs on the re-release:
Part of Me: Let’s not waste time, you know the drill. #1, catchy, we’ll move on.

Dressin’ Up: Let’s just get this out in the open first, this is the single greatest pop song that Katy Perry has ever released. Dressin’ Up starts off sounding very familiar, very much similar to the demo snippet that leaked way back when ‘Teenage Dream’ was first released. The first verse now sounds crisp with fresh backing vocals that have been added into the song giving it a much more distinguished feel. The chorus features a fresh new pumping vibe that ties in well with the chanted masterful lyrics. The unexpected change in the sound arrives with its second chorus with an added dub-step approach beat. “Better behave or a Police officer will have to hold you down – give you what you deserve”, she seductively warns. The song is bursting with suggestive references to sex, albeit thanks to the clever writing (and a list of accomplished writers at hand), it triumphs in pulling it off without seeming like ‘just another tacky pop song’. Just when the song can’t get sexy enough, Katy manages to pull it out of the bag with the bridge; it really is an experience that has to be endured to be understood. We feel slightly steamy just listening to the song. In all, Dressin’ Up is a steamy, sexy, well-written pop song which is bound to be a massive hit in the clubs after it’s release later this month.
5/5
Wide Awake: “I’m wide awake” she chants, the start of an airy affair from Katy herself. Somewhat of a departure from the upbeat, wholesome sound we were treated to on her singles run (and the majority of the album) this era, this one reminded us of her earlier work. A mid tempo, melodic number laced with a summery beat paves the wave for a catchy addition to a great pop album. We must note, it wasn’t as instant as Dressin’ Up. This may be down to the fact that snippet has been replayed a thousand times over, and we had always expected to fall in love with its final version. Despite this, Wide Awake just feels great. Lines like “I am born again, out of the lion’s den” are made by her sweet tone. It became a treat to listen to, and the way the song pans out, its middle 8 solidifies the comfort felt throughout as things go quiet and rebuild for a final chorus. Our only nag comes from her repetition of the line “I’m wide awake”, and it emerges clearly the song could definitely benefit from a few less in the verses. However, give us a week or two and we’ll guarantee it as our favourite. Good show, girl.
3/5
Whether some put it down to milking a good era, all 3 songs make for a nice addition to KP’s discography. ‘Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection’ will be a worthy addition to your collection if you’re a Katy fan or just someone who never got around to buying the original release. We’re pretty certain her fans will be pleased on the latest offering, and only time will tell if Dressin’ Up can have similar success as its predecessor.

From those snippets the review had it wrong. WA deserves a way better rating out of these 3.
