Everyday, on internet servers and mobile devices all around the world, wigs are snatched, font is enlarged, and blood pressure is raised over female pop star stan wars.
It's not enough that we give them hundreds (or thousands) of our dollars every year, we must also form internet militias, bashing anyone who does not believe that our favorite artist is the greatest thing since free ****.
With the advent of social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, stan wars have become an epidemic which has claimed the wigs of thousands of stans and artists all over the internet.
To clarify, this site is not "anti-stan". The purpose of this site is to end fighting between stan groups and begin the practice of "safe stanning".
Safe stanning means:
- Understanding and accepting your favorite artist's status in the industry. (If you stan for an artist who is performing in Chiptole parking lots, it's probably not a good idea to insult stans of artists playing arenas and stadiums. If you stan for an artist who habitually bubbles under the Bubbling Under Charts you should probably not have a lot of words for artists who can actually go platinutm within a year.)
-Understanding where your favorite artist stands in the grand scheme of the industry and in the minds of the general public (not just in your mind)
- Understanding the difference between fact, criticism, shade, and unconstructive hate.
- Understanding that your opinions, shade, and hate do very little to change your favorite artist's status in the industry.
- Understanding that Britney, Gaga, and Beyonce stans will **** your **** up.
- Understanding that stanning should not be personal. These are entertainment figures and the conversations should remain in that realm. If somebody disrespects Nicki Minaj that does not mean you should tweet their phone number and send post their naked pictures for the world to see (but you can email them to me) .
- Finally (and most importantly) The use of 3 simple words:
"In my opinion..."
We must get to the point when we realize that most of what is debated in stan wars is conjecture and opinions. Then we must not be so dependent on having those opinions validated by other people. I understand the need to correct, educate, or "drag" but at the end of the day people will see what they want to see and believe what they want to believe as long as it fits their cause.
It's fun to drag people, sometimes even fun to throw shade, but we can understand that it doesn't really change anything. At the end of the day the only person who can change someone's mind about the artist you stan for is the artist themselves.
If you're going to spend hours of your day exerting energy why not exert positive energy. Why not make friends with other stan groups (particularly stans of artists that are more successful than yours)? Instead of Stan Wars, why not have Stan Networks? Most of you stan for flops anyway. Do you really think you should be picking fights and turning even more people against your favorite artist?
When you go back and forth with somebody over a computer who are you trying to convince. Them or you? The comments that you make may make you feel better temporarily but they change nothing in the long run, and you're back to bitching and fighting the next day. It has become an endless cycle but I believe it can stop. When we get to the point where we don't let the opinions of others dictate how we receive art and entertainment, things it may end stan wars and bring the fun back into being a fan.
In essence, the purpose of the this site is to foster a spirit of self-awareness, mutual respect, and unsnatched wigs.
