The performance was epic and unique, and the song stood out among the others. Ruslana is the definition of cultural appropriation: she went live with the Hutsuls (a nomadic population of the Western Ukraine) for months in 2003 and snatched their culture and traditions to make her album 'Dyki tantsi'/'Wild Dances'. Two favourites in Ukraine’s national final have come under scrutiny after it was determined that one has been performed on numerous occasions prior to the national selection and the other is too political. Sunsay’s “Love Manifest” has been performed on several occasions in 2015. On YouTube, the song can be found posted in February 2015. This is contrary to Eurovision rules and could be disqualified by the EBU. On the other hand, Jamala’s “1944” has been accused of being too political with the lyrics “I couldn’t spend my youth there, because you took away my peace” at a time of ongoing crisis in eastern Ukraine. Furthermore, the lyrics of the chorus are the same as the ones used in the traditional Crimean Tatar song “Ey, güzel Kirim”, with just the lines being flipped. (by Luka Popovic)

I'm honestly not here for an overly homophobic country to win, unless the song is excellent. That's why I fear for Armenia, they're bound to send a SMASH song. And I'm 100% sure Russia won't win, and not only because they're sending a copy of Manny, but especially just because they're Russia.

I remember king Terry Wogan announced the runner-up as the winner at the UK national final and then admitted he did it on purpose because he couldn't believe the tragic Scooch act was representing his country
