It's the Hollywood star system, it's normal for established stars to always play similar roles, it keeps them bankable because once they find a formula that works they know the audience will always want to see them play the same type of character. Will Smith, Tom Cruise, Mark Wahlberg, Denzel Washington, Jodie Foster, etc.
Not everyone can be Tom Hanks or Daniel Day-Lewis I guess. But those others don't bother me. Something about Clooney just irks me.
