!!! It's already outgrossed John Carter internationally though, and will probably overtake it domestically too. Plus it had a slightly smaller budget. I guess Battleship will have to settle for the number two position on the biggest flop films of 2012 chart.

Leaving budget aside people were intrested enough to spend 250mill on see it.
I may not know how the industry works but it didnt BOMB.
At the end of the day the studio gained the money it spent on the film.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is going to be the sleeper hit of the Summer. Good reviews + great word of mouth + older target audience that doesn't rush out on opening weekend + upcoming expansions = great longevity ahead. I wonder how high it can go.

It cost under $20M and has already done over $80M outside the US.

Making a profit for movies is more complicated than a film "making" it's budget. Based on the budget and the (unknown) price of marketing it's going to take a while for Universal to be making a profit.

A 26 million opening for what was supposed to be a blockbuster is a disaster.

Its mostly the rihanna haters, bashing the film though. It may not have made the studio millions of dollars, but they regained what they spent. It wasnt a BOMB like people make it out to be.

So all this budget talk, does it mean that most of the huge saleing albums are flops because they obvi cost millions to produce and market.

Guys admit it. Battleship underperformed and is a big loser to Universal. Hello! It might earn back its production budget when all is said and done but consider the marketing costs. Plus, Universal won't keep 100% of the film's gross, considering tax and everything especially on the foreign markets. Universal will lose BIG money on Battleship.
