Casting directors are very particular about what they are looking for and can be picky based on a number of characteristics. Skyler's audition was very peppy and I'm sure Hilary's was as well.
And besides, Younger season 2 is shaping up to show more of Hilary's range as opposed to just have her as a sidekick like season 1 did.

I agree, that was actually my first thought when I got done watching the First Look, Hilary had that dramatic scene and then the rest were pure comedy and I was foaming at the mouth because it was perfect. It actually looks like all the characters will be fleshed out properly this season, even Debi's character and Debi is hardly even seen on the set.

She finished recording the album between February - April and then released the album in June. She didn't waste all those months, just some of them. 
Anyway, I'm definitely excited to see what's next after Younger season 2 promo. She's still signed to RCA and can obviously go back to writing/recording early next year, but then again her acting career is getting a resurgence thanks to Younger, so she can probably book a role or two in some films.  Which will she choose? |
I made a typo in my post, I meant to say: She absolutely cannot waste her February - September months not doing anything waiting on Younger to start filming the third season, which already hinted at in an interview.
