CAL Magazine: Miley's Week
No Fears This Time, for Miley
With 'On The Radio' Top 5 again; and 'My Truth' Top 3 again, do you see a better peak with the current longevity? Or, are you moving on towards other things?
Well, I'm very, very familiar with the number 3 when it comes to Single Peaks, that's for sure! But this time around, I wanted to put my attention more towards promoting the album as a whole. As of right now, we're still going to promote "On the Radio" and we are hoping for a Top Three peak, although Top Five doesn't seem that bad. As for 'My Truth', I'm just starting my tour and I'm very proud and happy to say that I think the show will do marvelous things for the album.
Lots of artists are in a race for #1, or Top 3 -- but your label seems to take things easier. Do you think they could do better management? Think their plan is fine?
We definitely are doing things differently here at Revolution Records, for sure. I mean, we like to keep things as simple and as realistic as possible, all while executing the highest-quality product we can. This plan has also had my input on it, so there's really nothing to complain about. I mean I definitely understand that the competition is really, really fierce out there but I'd rather not kill myself in the process of promoting, you know? Some artists can handle the 23/7 promotion schedule, I'd rather get some sleep at night. Everything is doing great so far, the single is doing alright, the album is doing fantastic - if I hit #1, it'll be the time where I'm supposed to hit #1.
'On The Radio' has smashed for awhile, and fans are anxious for a new single. Could you spill the tea on the next single?
I was actually planning a little announcement sometime soon with the tour starting and all... so here it goes! Although we are still promoting "On the Radio" just for a couple of more weeks, I'm very stoked to announced that the new single from 'My Truth' is............... "In Your Eyes"! I selected the song because all the singles this era have been up tempos, and this is my favorite ballad/mid-tempo on the album. It's so emotional, and I feel like not that many people have seen that side of me yet. 'My Truth' has such a variety of tracks that if I kept releasing my favorite collaborations, things would just get stale. "Shot Me Up" was the original choice until around last month where I decided to make the single "In Your Eyes". It comes out April 14th.
Your album was re-issued recently; but fans seeing the likes of Justin Bieber, Vanessa Hudgens, Azealia Banks, and more release albums are wondering if you've done work for your next album?
The work on my second album has been started since October, just with brainstorming track titles and concepts, trying to tap into the theme of the album. In around December, lyrics started being written and visual ideas, collaborations started to form. In January the track listing was 100% locked in, and now it's just a matter of getting into the studio and recording. This next album, my second with Revolution Records, is going to be very, very intense sonically. I'm working with people like Pharrell Williams of course, Mike WiLL Made-It, Diplo - just to name a few. I thought re-issuing 'My Truth' was a risk, but it seems to be paying off right now.
In Spring is there anything new to expect outside of music with Miley?
There has been some things I've been trying to plan outside of the music a little bit, but with touring it'll be a bit hard. I recently had an idea, but in this industry, ideas get snatched up real quick! But right now I have a new season of my docu-series 'The Making of My Truth' premiering this Tuesday on MTV, which I'm really excited for. But other than that, I guess we'll just have to wait and see how everything plays out.

It kind of is a mess though, and with schedules it's easy to resolve. And you can still do the try again tomorrow thing...???
And if you know of a better time and day for schedules, I'm open to suggestions to change it. Because now that I think of it that really isn't that great of a time.

BBC RADIO 1 x LIVE LOUNGE
Krewella stopped by England's biggest radio station, BBC Radio 1 for an interview and headed over to its live lounge for an exclusive performance of their brand-new single, "Like It Loud". The up-and-coming dance trio have been captivating the attention of many British after an X Factor UK performance last night. They revealed some album plans, talked about the UK and hinted a little at what to expect tonight on The Voice.
Host: Today in the studio we are graced with hot new trio, Krewella!
Jahan: We're actually not that new. New to the UK, but not new in general.
Host: Well this is your first trip to the UK, correct?
Kris: Yeah, we've been loving it so far. The people here are very nice. It's a lot colder than the States, we like hot weather, but we've managed.
Host: Have you tried any foods?
Yasmine: Not really, mainly pizza and Chinese. We're on a very tight schedule.
Host: Well then let's go grab something tomorrow!
Yasmine: Can't. Unfortunately, we leave the UK tonight. But we'll be back.
Jahan: Yeah that's right, we actually just got a call from our label this morning and we found out we'll be in the UK the week after our album release. So, we're very excited for that.
Host: Yes, your album. How has it been for you guys?
Kris: It's still not done yet, but everyday we're getting closer to finishing it. Whether it's a lyric coming to us, a call from a producer, a call from management - it's getting done. It should be done before the end of the month, our deadline is a bit after that.
Host: How big is the pressure, this being your debut album and all.
Yasmine: The pressure to deliver a kick-ass, die-hard album has been high this whole ride. I mean after "Alive" was over, people thought we'd be some one-moderate-hit group and disappear. But on top of success, we also want to make amazing music - that comes first always.
Host: Speaking of success, you have found some this era. Your first single, "Never Wake Up" did go Platinum.
Jahan: It did, after like seven weeks... I mean sorry Revolution, we love you but, yeah we love you.
Host: Were you guys mad at your label?
Jahan: Not necessarily mad, but a little frustrated. It also made us more determined to deliver an amazing follow-up single, which we now have. I mean, sometimes things don't go your way, and you can't always get what you want.
Kris: Yeah, there's a track about that on our album. We definitely dug into not-so-good experiences, there's many dimensions to this album.
Host: Well recently you released a puzzle game on your websites. And we just wanted to let Britain know, if you love Krewella and want to hear new album material, go to krewella.com or revolution records.com for more details. Why did you decide to put that game up?
Yasmine: Well, it's been a really damn long time since we've released any material other than our new single. And our album is coming in like a month or something a little earlier, so we just figured now is a great time to give the Krew a chance to unlock a little snippet.
Host: Have you selected the song you want to preview yet?
Yasmine: Yes, it's a chill, laid-back kind of song. It's a lot more on the Pop side of things.
Host: So you've got pretty much the whole nation talking about you right now after your little X Factor performance last night. First off, how do you even have the budget for that?
Jahan: The budget? Oh, you can thank Céline Dion for that.
Kris: Yeah, but we're actually on the verge of losing our money, because Revolution Records gave us a bank account - but a lot was spent on finishing the album. Then that X Factor performance was like, 20% of our original budget actually.
Host: Have they given you enough money?
Kris: Yes, but it's not our dream figure. They're currently managing Miley Cyrus, and her tour is very expensive. She really went all-out to put on a ****ing circus for her fans, she's incredible.
Yasmine: Yeah, it's just that, we're not the best of spenders. So.... mhmm....
Host: But you did get enough money to be on The Voice tonight, how's that coming along? Any little exclusives?
Yasmine: It's doing great. And our performance is going to be pretty different from X Factor. There's still really cool visuals, but expressed in a lot of different ways.
Kris: On the bright side it was like 6% cheaper from our account!
Host: Alright you three, get in the booth!
The three went to give an aired exclusive of "Like It Loud" acoustically performed. Kris played the piano while Yasmine and Jahan sang. Although the song itself is very aggressive, this particular arrangement caused the girls and the production, to be much more fragile. The two shined with their vocals, giving an incredible performance. After that, Krewella's "Like It Loud", the studio version, was played and the performance was uploaded to BBC Radio 1's site. In fact, it was just enough to give the single a little push to #3 on iTunes. Don't forget to watch Krewella tonight perform on The Voice UK!

How does this sound:
We'll have mini-games announced on Sundays, and the top three will get OP, and the winner will get title. The games won't be too time consuming, but you will have to do something to earn OP and title.

If it's shade, good idea. If it's something constructive about the idea, please go ahead. Or if it's you claiming I'm stealing your idea because you first brought up mini-games in here, I'll make an effort to credit you when I can.
