It wouldn't matter. She sold around 208k first week in the UK and finished up at 3.7M so far. If she sold 2M first week in the UK, sold 1.7M in the second week and never sold another copy, she would still have sold 3.7M in the UK. The result is the exact same. It doesn't matter which route she took to get there.
In term of sales number it makes no different but it will affects single sales and thereafter single chart run

It's still charting in the UK and has outsold Y&I. I think it might be able to hit 200k in the long run, which is much better, actually, than LoveGame managed. I'm posting the chart updates for those who are interested in them. Some people would like to know this stuff.
If your album sells 2M in the first week, those 2M won't be buying your next singles. Longevity is always better than front-loaded sales. When Gaga slays, she has incredible longevity: "Just Dance" and "Poker Face" are still selling a lot and she's having amazing longevity in the most front-loaded market (Japan).

I guess there's a point in that. But if given the choice of 1M first week and 2M overall or 200k first week and 3M overall, I'd always go with the first. It's a proper achievement to sell 1M in your first week, and much more impressive than having singles that do slightly better than they would with a 200k debut...

I agree, a 1M debut is something that rarely happens, so it's the best way to have front-loaded sales.
But nothing prevents you from having a million debut and then showing a little more consistence. The fact Born This Way still hasn't doubled its first week is quite
