Most Mexican immigrants take jobs no white man wants and they're happy and content with them. Ugh. It's like, I want them to be able to come here, but at the same time, that would cause overcrowding or w.e. and a lot of problems.

Agree with this.
It is definitely a very difficult and complicated situation. I think they should be allowed in the U.S. as long as they are productive citizens who are just seeking a better life. If they are not being productive and are causing problems, then they should not be allowed in the U.S. any longer.

Like the words of a cop from Law and Order: "Gee, it's almost as if someone put out a sign saying "give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses.""
I'm not familiar with how to get citizenship, so if someone wants to explain I'm all ears. But I don't think we should turn anyone away as a country. And the citizenship test needs to be reworked, for the love of God.

Oh, and before this gets too deep, let's all remember that immigrants come from everywhere, and go anywhere. I don't want to see all the future posts about "Mexicans" and "invading America."

True, although the largest number of immigrants to the U.S. are Mexican.

I'm SO against illegal immigration, and I don't like the way so many radicals paint it as racism. Every other country is allowed to defend its security and borders, but when it comes to America, it becomes a "social issue".
I don't think people even realize what a SERIOUS issue illegal immigration actually is. The media totes on it every once in awhile like its a running gag, but how American citizens know that BILLIONS....let me repeat that....BILLIONS of dollars are basically being thrown out the window for illegal immigrants. We are already in over 15 TRILLION dollars in debt as a country. And guess who's paying for it......? YOU. If you're an American and have a job. Every time you pay your taxes or have it removed from your paycheck, its going to fund people who illegally come to this country. You're paying for them to get healthcare, for their kids to go to school, etc.
You try living in Afghanistan, Japan, or one of these other countries without citizenship, guess what they do? They just shoot you and move on. And nobody says anything about it, but for some reason, people act like America isn't allowed to protect itself either. I mean, I don't think we should shoot anyone, but this needs to be taken more seriously. I actually agree with the Arizona law. I'll explain if anyone wants me to, later.
So, before you say "Oh, they're just coming because they want a better life, etc." remember that its you're basically rolling the red carpet out for them. I'm not saying these are bad people, not all of them are. Just like not all Americans are good either, but alot of illegal immigrants are getting assistance from the government tax money and sitting comfortably, while middle class America who went to school, WORKED HARD, can barely even put gas in their cars or send their own children to college.
And please don't think this is a race issue, I have no issue with Mexicans, and its not just Mexicans who are illegally in this country without a visa or greencard. In high school, most of my friends were Latino. It's just that there are tons of people who wait honorably to get their citizenship, while illegal immigrants are basically skipping the line. I don't feel sorry that. Living in the U.S. illegally without a visa or greencard is a federal crime. Anyone who does it, should be deported absolutely.

I only mentioned Mexicans because, for whatever reason, Americans only seem to care about illegal Mexican immigrants.

I believe that since this country is nothing but immigrants, we shouldn't turn other immigrants away.

Ok, I get all this, but why would someone live in the US and NOT be a citizen? I'm sorry if I sound dumb, but I don't see why people would not get citizenship. Are that many people failing the test? Or do they not care enough to try? If you bother enough to relocate, why wouldn't you follow it all the way through?

I believe the test is quite hard for those who are new to the country. You also, I believe, have to fit a certain type of citizen and you have to be in the country for x amount of years. It's really confusing.
I don't think it's fair that we all kind of forget that our ancestors came to this country on a boat. Who are we to deny law-abiding citizens the freedom we take for granted? Like Geo said, if they're productive citizens, I see no problem.

I think even the American government knows that it is a fallacy that we are ever going to pay that debt off. I think it will all be wiped out somehow or something "unexpected" will happen to erase it.

I'm certain that in a first-world westernized nation like Japan, they don't just murder people on the streets for being illegal citizens. They have a governmental system that exports the illegal immigrants back to their respective homelands like we have here.

How exactly? They normally take the lowest jobs they can find that any middle class American citizen would never take.

And I guess the English requirement would be really hard to master too. But what about being a registered alien?
And I never said immigration was wrong, so I'm guessing the second part was a general thought.

I don't really understand your question. If you're born in America, you're automatically a citizen, point blank. That can never be taken away from you. If you're born somewhere else, you have to be naturalized into a citizen through the government.
Have you seen videos of people crossing the border between Mexico and California? They're not trying to get citizenship the legal, way, they're just trying to get into the country.
I don't know what the Mexican government is doing, but they need to get their own act together.

Many foreign nationals reside or work in the US but aren't necessarily interested in acquiring citizenship. US citizenship means you pay US taxes even if you're no longer a resident of the country. The US is the only country in the world with that policy.

I'm sorry but getting a green card or even a ****ing visa when you're from Mexico is next to impossible, so let's not act like the issue is that they're too lazy to get a green card.
The US has ****ing horrible foreign policy, and silly immigration laws.
It's because of ignorant fools who think that all immigrants need to speak English, throw out all of their cultural traditions, and basically assimilate into a fat lazy society.
Instead, they take jobs by taking less money, and the Americans who can't find jobs get pissed because they're not willing to work for lower than $20 an hour because they need their UFC and their Blu-ray players, and when a Mexican worker will go it at $6 an hour just so they can send money back home, they get pissed that people are willing to actually work their asses off, so they start shrieking about how evil it is.
Look, you need to work. Sometimes for less than you'd like. If you don't want to, fine. There will be 40 people willing to work that hard instead.
EDIT: Just saw Katie's post. I'm just using Mexicans as an example because it's easiest for them to immigrate there.

My question isn't about those born here, it's about those that come here after being born somewhere else. So that many people are coming to the US without any intention of being a citizen? I find it hard to believe that so many people are okay being criminals like that. It's just mind-boggling to think THAT many people would live like that.

Does that only apply to those that migrate here, and then leave? Or born-citizens as well?

YES! I was waiting for you to show up.
Illegal immigrants don't hop the border because they want to be criminals, they do it because it's not that easy to get into the country the "right" way. If you try to pass through the border patrol, they haul your ass right back to Mexico and dump you in the middle of the nearest city.

They come here for jobs and for a "better life". The problem is that acquiring citizenship is next to impossible when you enter the country illegally. Most illegal immigrants stay under the radar and don't bother because they're afraid of deportation. Most of them are normal families and don't think to themselves, "I'm living on the edge of the law, law, law," they're just like, "Let us live our lives."

We may not be able to pay all of it back, but it still doesn't change the fact that we're losing our own money to other countries. America already has too many families' in poverty. Why are we paying for Mexico's problems too?

Not true at all. A job is a job. Do you know how many people are out there complaining about illegals taking jobs? And trust me, in this economy, people are almost looking to find ANYTHING that will pay them. lol. Especially the lower class? Lower class Americans are losing their jobs to Non-American citizens? Something isn't right there.
We're not ever going to fix our economy if we're paying Mexico's citizens what our citizens should be having in their own wallets.
