Well, we don't know that yet. We don't know how long Gaga's going to leave it until she releases, what sort of announcement and promo schedule she is going to have... It isn't exactly a measurable variable, but there's nothing to stop her from having as much hype as BTW if she markets correctly.

I seriously don't think it stands a chance. It could perform better overall, but I don't see BTW's opening week being repeated anytime soon.

No. The hype she had with BTW was not something you could buy with promo or announcements. It came with the sheer force of her starpower and she will NEVER have that again. It was a one-time thing. Now, she needs to deliver the goods musically or MTN's performance will be indicative of her next era and perhaps the rest of her career.

If you guys think she can replicate her BTW hype, you're setting yourselves up for a major disappointment that will make MTN's performance look like a fond memory.

I don't think it's a definite, but it's nothing to be ruled out. If she goes away for a while, she might be missed. I wouldn't say she'll never have that again either. She could win the public back with her next album to the same level as she had them with TFM. Anything is possible, she just needs someone who will have better control over her.

Even so commercially and culturally she's still the world's biggest star. The only one in my opinion who's closing in is Rihanna. Gaga is really the only one that's pretty much everywhere in the media. Even with Adele's amazing sales this era I still wouldn't say that she's the it girl as far as star power goes. Sure, BTW's lead single sales probably wont be as big or fast selling, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. We don't know Gaga is coming up with.

While she will never have that starpower again--hell, I don't think any other artist in history has ever had that much anticipation for a lead single--I think she has one album bigger than The Fame (Monster) left in her: whether it comes next or a few years down the road.

She needs to make people "forget" about this era. It has to be a very strong first single.

The thing is, she still has that potential. It just lies dormant behind some odd desire to produce music that sacrifices hot jams for message.

Rihanna is a very strange artist. As much as her fans love to think that she has some definitive personality, the fact is she's a neutral hitmaker. Everyone loves her because they keep her far enough away from the public. She sings about all the dirty **** she wants and no one complains because it's Rihanna. But she's not a huge product like Gaga, she's just a series of hits.

Rihanna is without a doubt closing in on Gaga from a pure music selling perspective, but as a commercial and pop cultural force, she's still nowhere close.

Adele is whatever. I have no interest in discussing her power for another 14-16 months.

I think that a lot of Rihanna's power is her sheer lack of provocativeness. I mean, S&M was the closest thing to a media meltdown she had, and people still don't remember it as much as the meat dress.
