That's how you know a song hasn't broken through on radio. Songs on the lower reaches of the charts are usually played at night, during off-peak hours, almost as a "test" to see if the song should be brought to a larger audience.

Yupp, they're performing "Black Magic". I don't think their second single is ready to be rolled out yet.

Z100 seems to have it at a slightly higher rotation, as they also played it at 6:40pm today in addition to the countdown spin and two overnight spins.

Honestly at this point, if they want to break the US, Syco and Columbia are gonna need to pay for a Max Martin session, get a huge track, and then service that, because Black Magic was literally the perfect radio single.

Maybe bad timing with all these releases on their side, but the song could've still weathered the assault.

I'm happy that this was (& still is) a huge hit in the UK. It's an amazing song, but I think it's lacking the "american" appeal.

The singles that could've and should've smashed in the US were DNA & How Ya Doin?, especially HYD. (Did they release those in the US?)


But, I'm okay with BMs chart run. It's a Top 70 hit and the AL peak was +10M, that's enough for America to support their 2nd single.

If the next single is more 'universal' with a good production that doesn't sound too acapella. (don't think america uses those kind of songs), a Top 40 peak with at least 25M overall audience is on lock.

The thing is it still hasn't collapsed yet on radio. It's also rising on iTunes again. I think they should discount it while it still potentially has a bit of life on radio and maybe it can start rising again.

Hailee Steinfeld's single had a similar amount of spins but double the audience on pop radio, and it was below Black Magic on iTunes. That song received a discount and is now currently top 20 on iTunes.
