in my experience rock fans are definitely the most pretentious of all music fans. they get so mad if you don't know/ listen to their faves it is probably mostly because 1. its not as "mainstream" or "shallow" as pop/rap etc. 2. because modern music derived a lot from old rock 3. because while rap/r&b as a genre is dominated by black artists and pop is dominated by female artists vs rock which is dominated by white men (and no im not trying to pull the race card or w/e, i dont think this is the main reason but i do think its a factor) 4. there are a lot more rock classics than pop, r&b or rap classics and rock overall is a bigger genre

On the other hand I've seen so many hardcore metal heads who love artists like Carly and Gaga and even a few K-pop stans

Y'all have to realize a fair bit of members here are 18-20 and under.

I honestly don't know very many legacy acts because I am A) young and B) I am in my family's first US-born generation.

People shouldn't get mad because of a lack of knowledge. It's just a cycle. In 30 years people ain't gonna know **** about today's artists who will obviously go on to be cited as influences to the next generation.

I don't know any either. I only know 3 rock groups Coldplay, Maroon 5 & Kings of Leon (thanks to Beyoncé). I grew up in a majority black city and none of the people I know use rock groups. R&B/Hip-Hop is the most popular. If I were to try and play some Rock music around my people they would tell me to cut that **** off

Maroon 5 and Coldplay being rock groups... They're both pop bands at this point, and that's not a bad thing. Even during their earlier days, neither band rocked very hard. I can't speak on King of Leon because I'm not familiar with their music.
