It's about how many people see and know your film and how much impact it has across culture. High ticket sales means a hell of a lot of people are seeing it, meaning more people are interested in it, it's known to more people (since, you know, they saw it), and therefore can have pop culture osmosis at a faster rate.

But Harry potter and the deathly hallows part 2 is #7 on the list of highest grossing films and the force awakens is currently #15 both franchises are worth billions. So I'd say they're about equal there.

That's after Harry Potter
finished it's run. Force Awakens is on its
second week with no sign of slowing down.

But Harry Potter got millions of children to get interested in reading. There is a whole theme park dedicated to the series in Florida and one coming out in California in a few months.

No one said Harry Potter lacked impact, but Star Wars literally shaped various genres and helped to make Sci-Fi mainstream. As for amusement park, Harry Potter got a section dedicated to it, not a whole park. Star Wars is getting the same in Florida. And with a bigger park chain. It would be in California too, excpet Disneyland has zero room.

JK Rowling became the first billionaire author and then gave a bunch of those billions to charity.

Ignoring the Star Wars statistics?

Both franchises are iconic in their own way. And both will be remembered and rebooted 50 years from now

No one said Harry Potter wouldn't be. On the other hand, HP fans are saying Star Wars isn't even THAT impactful right now.
Speaking of impact, "Luke I Am Your Father" might be the most iconic twist of all time, to the point you don't even have to censor it as spoilers. Can't QUITE say the same for
Snape Kills Dumbledore
.
