You really have to live in the UK to understand this sort of thing. For a long time migrants have come to this country and refused to integrate into society. Unbelievably, there are radical muslim groups who are allowed to march, preaching hate to non muslims. The main problem with these groups are that the members are British citizens. They can't be deported.
I've seen news stories and documentaries and it's not hard to understand why people are scared they are losing their culture. I feel very sorry for older generations, the UK is a very different place to the one they have known and it's not their fault.

You don't need to be from the UK to understand xenophobia or people being upset because their neighborhood's demographics are changing. It's not just a British thing. And those things you mentioned aren't that different from the BNP protests in the UK preaching hate except the latter is more passive-aggressive and not covered much by the media. Both those Muslim and white British fringe groups are disgusting, but they're just fringe groups so nothing can be done about them unless they become aggressive or violent.
As for older generations coping with the UK being a different place, how is it really different? Thanks to the media, the popular perception among Britons differs vastly from the actual statistics:
Quote:
Britons overstate the proportion of Muslims in their country by a factor of four and also think immigrants make up twice the proportion of the population as is really the case.
The actual percentage of Muslims in the UK is 5%, but those surveyed said they thought it was 21%. On immigration, British people think on average that immigrants make up 24.4% of the population when it is actually about 13%, according to the 2011 census.

The percentage of Muslims (and immigrants) in the UK is actually quite low, but it's exaggerated by most Britons. The reality is that the UK is a "different place" to older generations because the number of non-whites has risen, but they're still a tiny percentage so the real issue is race. And it's definitely a race issue issue because it's not Polish immigrants or Muslims like Rita Ora or Amelle that are white or black that are disliked the most. It's Asians who are often non-Muslims. That's why Shilpa Shetty was targeted in CBB, Charli XCX talked about her mom being harassed and some Bollywood actress had garbage thrown at her just for filming a scene for a movie in a park.
By the way, the interesting thing is that the non-white population in the UK has increased in the past 60 years thanks to British history. After British colonies in Asia, Africa and the Caribbean were given independence, a lot of workers were taken to the UK and they brought families with them so this created chains of immigration. The British created globalization.
