Season 7 was terrible. Amy + Rory got an awful goodbye and Clara was such a boring companion. Her whole "mystery" was drawn-out and unsatisfying. The episodes were so uninteresting and uninspired. I'd like to forget Season 7-8 ever existed.
Their Goodbye may have been terrible, but the episodes were good.
Again, Clara may have been boring, but the episodes were well written. You couldn't predict the ending to each.
Journey to the Center of The Tardis, The Asylum of the Daleks, The Rings of Akhaten, The Power Of Three. Hell even Dinosaurs on a Spaceship and The Bells of Saint John >>>> Series 8 and 9.
The only "awful" episodes of Series 7 were Nightmare in Silver and The Angels Take Manhattan.
The rest were average, expected episodes. And some episodes in Season 7 got critical acclaim.
The only really good episode in Series 8 where I actually felt interested was the Mummy on a Train one. The rest were kinda of average. I knew who Missy was from Day 1.
Season 9 hasn't made me go "wow" either. There's just nothing here.
Clara is my favourite companion Jenna is the most competent actress to appear as the companion, and I'm glad she's moving onto quite a big role. I haven't watched this week's episode - but, next week's looks far more gripping than all of this season's episodes combined

I'll admit that Series 7 was better than Series 8; at leas the former had highlights like Asylum of the Daleks, A Town Called Mercy and The Power of Three. All of Clara's episodes were terrible, however.
Agreed with Series 8. The writing of that season was utterly shambolic. Series 9 has been better than Series 8 and marginally better than 7, but nowhere near as spectacular as 6. i really like the messages in a lot of Series 8, the Zygon episodes in particular were utterly amazing. The Woman Who Lived was good solely for the way that it talked about Ashildr and The Doctor + the whole mayflies stuff. The Magician's Apprentice and The Witch's Familiar were dull. I'm ambivalent about Under the Lake/Before the Flood; UDL was a fantastic episode but BTF was rushed and inconclusive. Still, I'm excited to see how Clara is going to bow out this series!

Hide was literally the only episode of Series 7 that I actually loved. In all other episodes, they basically gave up on trying to make the Doctor a likable character and a good role-model for kids. (Remember that episode where he kissed a married lesbian woman against her will?)
There was also no point in having Amy and Rory stay on for another half-series. It was obvious the writers couldn't make up any good new material for them. (I mean, an episode where they almost get divorced? What the ****?) Clara was basically a non-character back then too, I still remember how much people used to hate her. Thankfully, she received some massive character redemption in Series 8. It wasn't only her too, basically all characters and side-characters were cardboard cutouts in Series 7.

Series 4 - 6 were the peak and the public agrees. Idc what anyone says, Matt Smith portrayed everything about the Doctor so well. And David finally fell into the "Doctor" not some Alien hearthrob. And Series 6 had me on the edge of my seat EVERY episode. It was incredible. I look back and remember how epic it was.
Steven needs to leave. He's had his 4 seasons, its time to pass the torch. He clearly used all his ideas in Series 5 and 6 and now is struggling to come up with new ones. Or at least pull a Doctor Who 2010 and release a few specials and come back with an epic plot.
I can already feel like they are going to bring back River Song and it's just not going to be the same because Steven won't use her properly.

Hide was one of the most basic ones though, a variation of a Doctor Who story told a million times
The characters were poorly written I agree, BUT the stories themselves were much better. Even if the Characters are amazingly written (this Season they are really well written) if the stories flop, it shows all around.
I mean, Matt and Peter are great at their roles and have carried Series 7 - 9 on their shoulders, but I mean, that's all that redeeming. I mean they ruined the Cybermen, they ruined the Angels. None of the stories feel threatening. The Dalek episodes in Peters run feel like a Parody.
So many episodes in Season 7 praised Matt for his performance because there wasn't much else.
Not really. Ratings are currently higher than they've ever been in the US and Canada.

Just because RTD had 4 seasons then that means Moffat should have the same amount too? Also, supposedly, Moffat planned to leave after this series but the BBC convinced him to stay.

Filming is starting later than usual for the next series, so we're most likely only getting a Christmas special next year.

That's because the BBC started promoting Doctor Who like crazy in the US starting from the Day of The Doctor They hadn't done major press tours in the US before then, and BBC America as a channel hadn't really done great numbers in general. Doctor Who was one of the first shows to actually make the channel much bigger in the US.
That said, Series 5 and Series 6 topped the iTunes charts in the US for weeks and also DVD sales were really strong on Amazon etc. Series 7 dipped a little bit, and Series 8 and 9 haven't really appeared on the iTunes charts at all, not even for episodes.
Doctor Who having stronger Ratings in the US, is only because the show is actually being promoted over there as a contender. It was considered "niche" before Season 7 broke the record and BBC America actually tried. It's also worth noting BBC America are is actually being watched now.
More importantly, the public reception for Series 5 and 6 was at an all time high. Also, the Season 6 premiere of Doctor Who was the most recorded television event of all time, and I believe before the Royal Wedding snatched (I'm pretty sure it bet the record, could be wrong).

I'm not saying they should have 4 EPs each, but Russel knew when it was time, and so should Steven. Pretty sure BBC wanted Russel to stay on too, and he did those 3 specials instead.

Matt Smith was a great doctor, but David will always be my favourite. I do like Capaldi though, the darker edge he brings to it works rather well. Yes about Series 6! It was such a superb series, from the whole pregnancy storyline to River Song's identity and the Doctor "dying". Actually in the mood to rewatch it again.
Steven definitely needs to go, the writing and storylines have become dire, cliched and recycled. He was good for Series 5-6 and elements of 7, but he's tiring now. I'm excited for River Song's return, but like you said I don't think it'll be done in a good way. Along with Rose, Amy + Donna she's one of my favourite companions. I really didn't like her return in the Name of the Doctor, it didn't make sense imo for her to be post-Library.
Face the Raven reviews: (possibly spoilers in links)
Quote:
Is Face The Raven any good? That's the point of a spoiler-free review, really, to find out the answer to that question. Yes. Yes, yes, yessity-yes. It's really good. It's further proof too of Doctor Who's inherent intelligence, and steadfast refusal to dumb down.
Matching the heights of the talents of the cast is composer Murray Gold who reminds us once more why he's THE music man for Doctor Who. Most definitely, once of his finest pieces of music is in store for fans.
Face The Raven is a remarkably assured and confident episode by anyone's standards. But given its Sarah Dollard's first Who entry (and I cannot imagine it will be her last), this is to be admired greatly.
Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman are amazing this episode, but you probably already knew that. Capaldi could recite the phone book and be mesmerising and moments like Clara versus Bonnie in The Zygon Inversion have proven why she will be missed after series nine has ended. New writer Sarah Dollard also emerges as the Jamie Mathieson of series nine. After this episode fans will be demanding that she makes a return in series ten (when and how it is broadcast) and I for one wouldn't argue with that.
I didnt like Matt Smith as the Doctor, but his storyline was great, River Song is my fav character, but I dont think its a good idea to bring her back beyond a small cameo like Billie had with Bad Wolf. And do you remember the van Gogh episode? Simply brilliant.
My favorite Doctor remains David, followed by Christopher and Peter. Peter is doing good as the Doctor, its the writers who failed to deliver. And Jenna became the most boring companion during these two seasons. She should have left the show after the season 7 finale, when her story was explained. That would have been a perfect ending for her. After that she became annoying and useless as a character imo, not mentioning how there is absolutely no chemistry between her and Peter.
omg her theme music is so beautiful its probably just as good as Rose's bad wolf theme. The way those notes on the piano came in slowly when she realised she was going to
