KoB's 2009 Presents: ATRL's Top Artists of 2009
01. Lady GaGa (21 votes)-
ATRL has voted, and you voted Lady GaGa as your favourite artist of 2009. This year GaGa has strutted her way into chart history, currently holding 4 consecutive #1 hits on the U.S. Mainstream charts. She started her enormous career only in 2008, with lead single, "
Just Dance", but it managed to become a big success in 2009, hitting #1 in the States and U.K. But her biggest single to date, Worldwide, has been the monster hit that is "
Poker Face", selling almost 900,000 copies in the UK, and looking set to become the biggest seller of 2009, it also managed to hit #1 in Australia for 8 weeks, and stayed at #2 in the States for 8 weeks, whilst also hitting #1. All above that, "
Poker Face" also managed to become the second biggest seller of 2009, not only that, but "
Just Dance" also managed to clinch onto the third biggest seller in the States. GaGa has also undertook three, yes three tours this year. She started off the year, touring Britain with The Pussycat Dolls and Ne'Yo. Then in May, she undertook her own headline tour, The Fame Ball Tour in the States. And at the end of the year she started her Monster Ball Tour, which will continue into 2010. As I have said in the previous thread, I hope and pray that GaGa's success will shine for years to come.
02. Britney Spears (12 votes)-
Well, to be honest, it's hard to say the achievements Britney has had this year, but I'll try. ATRL's Queen Ms. Spears, continued into 2009 with her
Circus era. While, "
Circus" was busy becoming Britney's biggest record in the States, she was causing controversy all over the World, with her innuendo hit, "
If U Seek Amy", or to put it into the words that Britney couldn't say, F U C K me! Basically Britney was looking for a good ****, and thought that putting her plea into a subliminal message would help her with that. But no, the Clever soccer moms caught on, and voiced their concerns to the media. But through all that, Britney kept her cool, and took on a Worldwide Headline tour, starting in New Orleans. It became one of 2009's most successful tours. She recently concluded it in Australia, where she caused more controversy for miming live on stage. C'mon Aus, what were you expecting. But then in October, Britney gained huge success with the first single from her
Singles Collection, "
3". Which went onto become the first single to debut at #1 this decade which wasn't a reality star's single. Congratulations Britney!
03. Beyonce (11 votes)-
Beyonce continued to reign supreme in the charts, starting off 2009 at #1 in the U.S. charts with "
Single Ladies". The song which went onto become one of the best videos of all time, according to KanYe West. Not only did the song itself become a huge hit, but the video and it's dance routine became one of the most parodied videos of all time. Being parodied on and by Glee, Saturday Night Live, Alvin & The Chipmunks, The Fray, Jo Jonas, Shane Mercado, Barack Obama, and in a Pot Noodle advertisement in the UK. She also took on her Worldwide tour, with the I Am...Tour. She continued her success with more hit singles, "
Halo","
Sweet Dreams", and "
Broken-Hearted Girl".
04. Taylor Swift (8 votes)-
The 20-year old star has had one heck of a year. Her biggest success of course is her hit album, "
Fearless", which became the biggest selling album of the year in the States. Taylor managed to hit overseas, releasing her first single, "
Love Story" worldwide, and it managed to become a number one hit in Australia, and managaed to become the first country hit in over 9 years in the U.K. peaking at #2 in the Singles Chart. Then she managed to score a VMA win for Best Video in September, which has now become one of 2009's most infamous moments, inwhich Kanye West crashed the stage, and left Taylor looking like a beat-up puppy. Poor Taylor! Recently, she's just hooked up with Twilight star, Taylor Lautner, and has released the Platinum edition of her hit album,
Fearless.
05. Pink (5 votes)-
As we all know, Pink is one of the World's biggest Pop stars. Although she never got another #1 hit this year, she did manage to kick off a massive Worldwide tour. Her hits this year included, "
Sober", "
Please Don't Leave Me", "
Funhouse", and "
I Don't Believe You", and managing to hit 10x Platinum in Australia. Congratulations to Pink for getting into ATRL's favourite artists of 2009.
