Judging by the other artists in those decades, that's based off of chart success and not DEFINING and era.

Which is why this
Seemed a bit premature when it was done 2 years into the 2010s, but I'm sure the Navy didn't give a damn.
And the lists are validating two different things. One is numbers, the other is actual impact.

Beyoncé more than deserves to top this list. When are you basics going to realize that all of your faves worship her, and that hasn't happened with any artist since basically Michael Jackson.

Y'all shouldn't take Billboard's opinion so seriously.

Beyoncé being number one
Her Impact being recognized by Billboard even tho she's not singles driven makes the haters look even more foolish
It sucks that Rihanna isn't on the list but they have only ever favored her when it came to Chart Stats not acclaim so it's no shock she's not there.

Keep in mind Bey has been this since 1997.

I am just filled with so much elation with the praise that Beyonce has received this past year. Beyonce is literally the most praised, respected, and in my opinion, the influential artist right now. She may not have the "statistical" numbers that ATRL likes to brag about, but it seems every new artist always praises Beyonce and looks at her as an influence.
That is why Billboard stated
Quote:
What does it mean to define a musical era? For us, it means to bend the universe of the medium toward you, to become the star that every other entity is forced to orbit.
|
This isn't about who had the most #1s or whose single went #1 in more countries, but who has the most impact.
She literally runs the music and cultural atmosphere and is the standard. That is why every artist is compared to her. While one may have sold more than Beyonce, they have less critical acclaim, and visa versa. Beyonce is literally the total package.
Sidebar: Love to see Kanye at #2. "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" is the "OK Computer" of this generation.

ATRL lives for the Hot 100 and refuses to acknowledge that it's NOT the end all, be all of music. We're gonna pretend that Bey would have multiple top 10s or #1s from this era if she wanted. It's not about that. She moves the world. She influences people beyond music.

Beyoncé stops the world with her releases, I've said it multiple times. She is the defining artist of our time.

I mean Beyonce had a Harvard study. Her face on a Pepsi can, groundbreaking deal with the company. Bey has think pieces on her, it's not "what Beyonce is saying" it's, "what does Beyonce mean?". Her album was on every NEWS channel this is, it was an event. College courses on HER. Universities do tributes HER. Lyrics from her songs became apart of pop culture seen on TV shows, shirts, mugs, pillows etc. You have companies using her lyrics as slogans to sell their products. This woman has her own LEGEND of Rock exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. TV skits about her (SNL), Terms "Pulling A Beyonce" will forever be apart of pop culture. WWBD (What Would Beyonce Do). You have other successful famous people not just pop stars but celebs wanting to be HER, stanning for HER, doing HER. Benedict Cumberbatch was doing what is called "The Beyonce Walk". Bey's influence and impact goes beyond music. And no one today comes close to it.

Gaga, Lord, Bey, Kanye, Kendrick
They should swap out Arcade Fire for Louis though. I'm tired of AF being basic publications' go-to token indie act.

Not One Direction & Rihanna being snubbed from the list, and Adele snubbed from #1

Lemme summarize. All sensible people in this thread noted that this list also should've included Rihanna and Bruno Mars. + you can observe some stans fangirling (btw, examples of "malicious joy" above are a bit diagnostical for some "happy stans", can't get someone outta ur mind, I guess) and trying to start mess for no reason, like

/endthread
And this is still, like, discussed here! But as long as it praises someone's faves, it will be irrefutable receipt for stans
Personally, I agree that some people listed here (not in this order tho) were influential in 2010s - speaking about actual effect which can be somehow seen by spectators, not biased magazine editors' judgements.

And no one has yet to define Rihanna's impact. Hell, Billboard, her bread and butter, couldn't even do it.

Now ur doing too much. Rihanna hasnt released any new music in two years which is probably a good reason as to why she isn't on the list.
