Yes this was a single where I live, yes it was a hit. I already used this song after everyone was saying this should’ve been the third single, so when it was announced by pretty much every mainstream radio station in the country I was pretty stoked. It’s catchy, it’s a bop and from its chart performance yes it should have been the third single off Unapologetic. The downside is it kind of lost its touch when it got overplayed.
69 Animals - Maroon 5
Not a bad track from them, it’s catchy and it’s radio friendly, but it’s no different from most of their other singles. I kind of liked the singles off Overexposed more but this still managed to be a big hit for them in the US. I can’t recall it taking off where I live but it’s still a bop nonetheless.
68 Tightrope - Illy
I immediately liked this based off the hook and after I got more into it the verses were just as good for me. It’s catchy and it’s probably one of my favourite hip hop tracks of the year, from an Australian act. It did end up taking off and it did quite well, so props to him
67 I’m Ready - AJR
This was an interesting song when it first came out and it was kind of catchy, but I got over it quite quickly when it started getting overplayed.
66 Animals - Martin Garrix
From what I know this was released quite some time ago, but it took me awhile to finally listen to it. When I did, it was a bop, and it’s probably one of my favourite dance releases this year. It did get played quite a lot so for me it might have lost its touch, but it’s a solid track from him and I hope he does well in the future.
65 Don’t Stop - 5 Seconds of Summer
After the solid, and impressive run of ‘She Looks So Perfect’ I knew this was something I would be anticipating. At first I thought it lacked something in the chorus, but after it grew on me it became one of my favourite tracks during the middle of the year. The verses are probably the most solid part of the song, and the guitars gave it that edge. Oh and the video is smashing
64 Team - Lorde
*121 on 2013 End of Year Chart
I got into this from the start, and I like the direction she took with this song. It pretty much grew more and more on me and it’s definitely one of my favourite tracks from her. It had impressive longevity as well so this was a solid single from ha
63 Jubel - Klingande
A different sounding song. It got played a lot where I live and the downside was that I found it hard to get into because it’s a very repetitive track. It has more of a relaxing sound though and for a dance track it had a different approach.
62 We Are Done - The Madden Brothers
A grower. It wasn’t sure what to expect when they no longer labelled themselves as ‘Good Charlotte’. At first listen it was hard to get into because it lacked the rock influence that they usually have, but the chorus eventually came through. Imo the verses kind of let it down and I got tired of it after some time, but it did well for them.
61 Swing - Joel Fletcher & Savage
I kind of liked this at first, but it stayed around for longer than I thought it would and it started to get annoying. It’s pretty much a typical dance track, but it was successful so good on him.
In Australia it’s the 25th, so I wish you all a merry Christmas, and I’ll leave you with this bop, enjoy
Both Animals + Team are incredible! love them... but my favorite from this set is "Jubel"
Finally someone on ATRL loves that amazing song, so underrated on here
