“Don't Say You Love Me" (1999) Shades of Purple
Hot 100: #21
Days on TRL: —
Overall score: 5.53 High score:10 (PeopleLikeUs, CoolestPerson12) Low score:1 (BlueTimberwolf)
Norweigan duo M2M (named for members Marit and Marion) made a true splash in the U.S. with their debut single "Don't Say You Love Me," which went gold and nearly reached the top twenty of the Billboard Hot 100. Despite the teenagers' chipmunk voices and a featured spot in Pokémon: The First Movie, the sweet guitar-driven pop resonated with more than just Radio Disney audiences, finding its way onto Felicity and Beverly Hills, 90210, and earning them a spot opening for Hanson on tour.
Best bit: The breathy, acoustic first verse grabs the listener with its cool ambience.
The music video... feels surprisingly timeless with its drive-in theater setting. (There's also an awkward Pokémonversion.)

This is some ********. Yep, complete and total BULL. ****. I don't care if I get any WPs for cursing; it's the only way to describe this travesty
But anyway... Is the Pokémon version that awkward, though? I just remember watching that version and thinking that it made more sense to have scenes from a movie (any movie) on the screen than the "Coming Attractions" card basically the whole video
“How Do I Feel (The Burrito Song)" (2000) Hoku
Hot 100: —
Days on TRL: —
Overall score: 5.58 High score:9 (KillingYourCareer, Poxy) Low score:1 (BlueTimberwolf)
Single-monikered diva Hoku may not have reached Madonna status, but she gave us so much to enjoy in her short pop music career. Chief among the pleasures? This second single from her debut album, which, as Stefon might say, has everything: a staccato acoustic guitar hook; the turn of phrase "More and more, I miss you less and less"; a singing computer; and, of course, an unnecessary title parenthetical.
Best bit: "I was free when we met/You were eating a burrito/With a girl, some brunette/At El Torasco's" (I mean, what else could it be?)
The music video... celebrates Hoku's Hawaiian heritage. Not enough burritos.

Fair enough. It just kind of killed the vibe for me to have unrelated cartoons popping up over and over. I otherwise love the video. It's very Grease.
Hoku had so much potential. If she had stuck with the Taylor/Collie Callait route instead of trying be Britney at the same time she could have smashed.
