Omg, the shallow and judemental posts in this thread.

The gay community is constantly preaching acceptance and justice, yet some are outright vile and judgmental themselves. What goes around comes around I guess.

Have you ever thought maybe Tom is attracted to him (which he obviously is), and they're in a loving and committed relationship which isn't based purely on sex and physical attraction. Some of you gurls have A LOT to learn about relationships.

I agree with the idea behind your post but you took it too far. Gay people are no more shallow or judgmental than straight people. Immaturity on this level in no way matches up to being labeled sinners and being denied civil rights. We aren't to blame for the bigotry of straight people. The gay rights movement can't be reduced to "what goes around comes around" and you're dead wrong for suggesting otherwise.

That wasn't a generalization of the entire gay community. And it's true! If people are going to say such nasty/cruel things about Dustin Black, why are they so shocked if somebody says something mean about them being gay? This of course, isn't exclusive to the gay community, but my point was aimed at the gay community (myself included), as they experience the stereotyping that straight people don't.

And no, I didn't once say gay people were more shallow or judgemental than straight people, so I don't know how you got that from my post? It was merely an observation, which is correct. A lot of people on this site are homosexuals, should they not be congratulating and proud of an openly gay celebrity couple? Instead of making cruel and offensive jokes about appearance. That's my opinion anyway, and I will stand by it.

The bottom line is that no amount of judgmental gay people will ever justify homophobia. You're shifting blame for discrimination against gay people from straight people and onto the LGBTQ community. Judging someone's appearance and being prejudiced against a minority group are on two very different levels.

You are born gay, and it is part of your identity. You are also born with a particular appearance, which is also part of your identity. What makes it different?

I wasn't shifting blame. Homophobia is never justified, my point was that, if some (emphasis on some, as in a minority) of gay people are willing to make offensive remarks about people, why are they shocked if somebody comments on their sexuality? If you look outside this thread, this website has many negative comments towards race, religion, age, weight etc. Why is it any different?

Of course, this is not aimed at the entire community as that would be a generalization. I just think you should treat people how you want to be treated yourself... and if you're willing to judge others you should be prepared to be judged by others (regardless of the fact you might be part of a stereotyped group in society). We're all human at the end of the day.

and I am not being racist as I said white for example in my previous post - Most my friends are black and Asian and I often get guys trying to flirt or something with me and must acknowledged them in a negative way "OH, you have a black boyfriend?" (disgusted face)

As in the gay community, liking white is the norm, and if you're partner or friends are not that, then you are judged.

Why do you think there are terms as "Rice queen" or "Jungle fever" but nothing for liking a white man? Because we have to label people who like something different.

There's just as much ageist behaviour in straight couples being judged, as in gay couples being judged. The same goes for straight people and gay people acting shallow.
How many times DAILY don't you hear straight people saying "he/she's so ugly, I would never date him/her"? You get the same thing from the gays.
There is no difference from what I can see.
