2nd of all, single sales do NOT bring in revenue, and are solely used as a marketing prop for the album, and touring. Singles are charged at 1.29, and iTunes gets a large percentage of that, as well as Royalties to writers, and performer royalties. 1 million downloads, doesn't even make the label 500k, so kiii @ you. Yet again, Christina is serving absolutely no purpose in any musical market across the world.
And I wish you were right for Avril's sake, but you're not, and Christina's irrelevant ass yet again comes up where it's not relevant - which is everywhere.

I wonder who won't.

Bonnie, Karmin (though their music since signing hasn't been great), The Fray, Wallpaper., Cher
Can't they release another Michael Jackson Greatest Hits or something? The Male Katy Perry could save them.

Do you even know how the industry works?
For a song
- Artists (12%) + producers (3%): 15%
- Label: 70%
- iTunes: 15%
however, iTunes makes LESS than 10% profit per song because of cost of servers, bandwidth, and credit transfer (even though they have price break due to the large amounts).

What about writers? Lots of songs have artists + writers + producers. iTunes takes closer to 25-30%. The label also has to pay to have the song on iTunes. They're profitable, but not huge moneymakers.

That's because Ciara isn't just a singer, she's also a songwriter, a model, she has great deals and I don't know if she's still choreogreapher, but she's a hardworker, all her coins comes from here and there not only music.
I mean if she could work her ass off to pay the music videos from the Basic Instinct, at this point she has enough fame and working ethic to be independant and find good deals for touring and distribution.

It actually depends, writers could earn as many percentages as artists do.however, usually writers earn more money on perform rights and synchronization rights.
the more people involve in a song, the less money the label will make
all the percentages are not fixed, it depends on the actual contacts with different artists/writers/producers. however, I can guarantee you that the label has at least 50%.
they sure have to pay to have songs on iTunes, but it's not expensive, even indie artists can put their songs out. you're also right about moneymaker, singles are not a huge moneymaker, they're basically just for promotion purposes.
